AFC Bournemouth Women won 9-0 against United Services Portsmouth to progress in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Hannah Bennett netted four, while there was also a second hat-trick of the season for new recruit Molly Clark.

Maisy Smith and Helen Corbin also got on the scoresheet in what was a convincing win for Steve Cuss’ side.

Following the victory, he spoke with afcb.co.uk about his delight at the performance.

“I think we went there and we did a really good job,” began Cuss.

“To score eight in the first half, we knew the game was won and it was a solid performance. We didn’t quite match those levels in the second half, the game was a lot slower and we found it hard to create chances.

“Having said that, we’re through to the next round of the FA Cup and that’s what we set out to achieve at the start of the day.

“With our league beginning later, the FA Cup has given us good competition, we’re enjoying that and we’ve had some competitive matches. It’s really good to get back to playing matches after everything came to a halt.”

Cuss also spoke about the next round, where his side will come up against Moneyfields, also of the Southern Region Women’s Premier League, in Portsmouth on Sunday.

“It’ll be a good game,” he continued.

“I think both sides have got a lot of respect for each other and both were going well in league until it was suspended last season.

“We’ve enjoyed playing each other and we won one each last year, so I’m expecting another good game.”
