AFC Bournemouth Women beat Moneyfields on penalties to progress in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

After the fixture finished 1–1 after 90 minutes, it went straight to spot-kicks, with Katie Scadding producing the winning saves as the Cherries came out on top with a 4-3 scoreline.

The game was a tight affair from the get go, with chances few and far between in the opening stages for both sides.

Gemma Hillier had a great opportunity from Rosie Eden’s flicked header, drawing a good save from the Moneyfields ‘keeper.

Hillier was then involved again, this time setting up Molly Clark who drove one at goal, again another fine stop required to prevent the goal.

Scadding then played her part up the other end, saving a point-blank effort following a Moneys corner.

The deadlock was, however, broken just before the break and it was Clark who capitalised for the Cherries.

She raced onto a loose ball, saw the ‘keeper off her line and lifted it into the empty net to give the visitors the lead.

Following the interval, there were chances for both teams, Kim Whitcombe going closest but putting her effort over the bar after being through one-on-one.

Nevertheless, Whitcombe didn’t waste her second opportunity, sliding to finish at the back post after a good ball in from the Moneyfields winger.

Scadding was kept busy as the hosts looked for a winner, with the game opening up in the final stages.

One final opening was to present itself to the visitors and it fell to Maisy Smith, but yet again the ‘keeper did superbly to get down low and palm away an effort with her right hand.

As the full-time whistle blew soon after, penalties were needed to decide the tie.

Katie Kingshott, Abby Jones and Katelyn Wort, along with both Clark and Hiller, stepped up for the Cherries, but it was Scadding who came up with the winning save.

Her right hand guided Moneyfields’ third spot-kick onto the post, before their fifth effort flew over the bar to send Steve Cuss’ side through.

They’ll now go on to play Southampton Women FC at Alresford Town next weekend in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
