AFC Bournemouth made it through to the final round of qualifying in the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, with a 3-2 win over Swindon Town.

Erin Thickett bagged a brace, while a strike from Rosie Eden saw Steve Cuss’ side overcome the Robins, who play their football in the league above.

The Cherries today find out who they will face in the next round of the competition, which will take place on Sunday 27^th October.

It took Thickett less than 20 minutes to break the deadlock after good work from Rebecca Miles on the right.

The forward picked the ball up out wide, beat her defender and crossed to Thickett at the back post, who converted with ease.

Despite the early lead, the hosts soon hit back after breaking on the counter-attack after Thickett had hit the bar with a fine shot.

With the ball cleared, it fell to the Swindon midfielder in the middle of the park, who raced down the right and saw her shot beat Steph Small in goal.

However, the scores were only level for a matter of time as Thickett restored her side’s lead.

Good work from Maisy Smith saw her bring the ball out from the back, before clipping one over for Thickett to run on to, the youngster seeing her initial shot saved before converting the rebound.

After the break, it was a tight second half with both teams opting to bring on fresh legs throughout.

Cherries substitute Eden certainly made an impact and got a goal to give the visitors a healthy cushion.

The winger intercepted a pass played out from the back by Swindon, before driving inside and hitting one on her right foot from 18 yards.

Six minutes from time, the national league outfit did pull a goal back but failed to threaten after reducing the deficit, meaning the Cherries made it through and are just one win away from the first round proper.

“I’m really pleased, mainly that we went away from home against a team who play higher in the football pyramid and came away with victory,” he began.  

“Generally, I’m happy with the all round performance, but we could never quite get away from them in terms of the score. We would go in front and they pegged us back.  

“But it was another challenge and another one that we’ve overcome. Full credit to the players for overcoming it and we look forward to the next round.”
