Cherries hit eight to cruise past City

Doubles from Rachel Anderson and debutant Alexis Bussell paved the way for an 8-2 AFC Bournemouth win over Oxford City, as the side returned to action following recent postponements.

Rosie Eden, Hannah Bennett, Rebecca Miles and Terri Harvey were the other home scorers as the Cherries ran up a big score in the Southern Region Women's Premier League.

Under way at Verwood Town, the hosts had an early goal when Eden crossed a good ball in which the City 'keeper was only able to help into her own net for the game's opener.

Abby Jones created a second when she won the ball back and played through for Anderson to hammer home, Bussell in on the act as she reacted quickest to turn home from another Anderson effort, scoring her first goal in her first half of football for Bournemouth.

Bussell was at it again as she converted from Anderson's cross before the break, the home side four goals to the good at half time.

There was little let up after the restart as Harvey completed a move from Erin Thickett's pass, and Anderson was alert for her second as she profited when Oxford unsuccessfully looked to play out from a goal kick.

City registered to make it 6-1, before Miles netted at the other end following a scramble in the area from Eden's centre.

The away side grabbed a second consolation but there was still time for the Cherries to grab the final goal of the afternoon, captain Bennett converting from the spot after Eden had been upended, finishing the scoring at 8-2 in favour of the Cherries.
