AFC Bournemouth Women cruised into the next round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup after a 6-0 win over Feniton Ladies.

Braces from both strikers, Becky Miles and Meg Vella, helped the Cherries progress in the competition, while Emma Davis and Maisy Smith also got on the scoresheet.

With Steve Cuss’ side looking after the ball well in the opening period, it took until just over the half hour mark for the deadlock to be broken.

Rosie Eden’s delightful cross, after some good work on the wing, found Davis in space in the box, with the first-time finish powerful enough to beat the Feniton ‘keeper.

Just three minutes later and the lead was doubled, this time Vella picking up the ball from a wayward goal-kick and playing in Miles, who saw the ‘keeper off her line and hit an early shot to find the target.

A third was added just before the break. This time, a good ball in from the left corner found an onrushing Smith, who duly converted for a comfortable lead at half-time.

Following the break, Miles had an excellent chance to get the hosts off to a flying start, producing some superb saves from the Feniton ‘keeper at close range.

She did, however, get her second of the afternoon soon enough, a low finish finding the bottom corner with 65 minutes gone.

Last year’s Player of the Season, Vella, soon got the goals that her performance deserved, too. Her first of the day, and a fifth for the Cherries, was added with six minutes to go after a delightful finish across the ‘keeper and into the corner

And there was still time for her to double her tally. A low finish from inside the area made it six with minutes remaining, while shortly after Eden then saw her shot rebound off the bar to deny a goal in stoppage time.

“I’m really thrilled. It was a bit strange starting the season with a cup tie, but we’re delighted to get through and into Monday’s draw,” he began.

“We created a lot of chances and could probably have had more, but in fairness to the opposition they played very well defensively against us. We can’t be disappointed with six in the first competitive game of the season and it was a good attacking performance.”
