AFC Bournemouth Women made it through to the main draw of the FA Cup for the first time in their history after an 8-0 win over Newhaven yesterday.

Braces from Maisy Smith, Rosie Eden and Terri Harvey, as well as strikes from Hannah Bennett and Jade Hockey, saw the Cherries progress in excellent style.

It took just eight minutes for Steve Davies’ side to opening the scoring, with Maisy Smith picking up the ball outside the area, beating her full back and shooting across the ‘keeper for 1-0.

And the striker had her second moments later, as Eden cut in from to left to find Smith, who fired in the rebound after her initial shot was saved.

It was nearly three, but Newhaven ‘keeper Annie Hills pulled off an excellent save from Katie Kingshott, who’s effort was heading for the top corner.

With the Cherries dominant, the visitors made their chances count with Eden netting her first of the afternoon, subsequently latching onto Harvey’s pass before firing a powerful shot home.

And there was still time for the women to grab a fourth before the break, Harvey herself getting in on the act with an excellent lob over Hills, who had parried away Smith’s shot.

The Cherries started the second half just as they had finished the first, with Bennett chipping over the ‘keeper 58 minutes in.

Just five minutes later and Eden bagged her second. A hard low cross from Emma Davis alluded the Newhaven defence, with the striker there at the back post to convert.  

And Davies’ side were rampant with Harvey also getting her brace just after the hour mark. A mis-hit from Kingshott fell to the forward, who turned her centre-back before finding the net.  

With the clock ticking down, there was still time for Hockey to get on the scoresheet with a fine effort across the face of goal finding the corner.  

The win sees the Cherries progress to the first round proper for the first time, with the side now handed an away tie against Keynsham Town.
