The latest report from AFC Bournemouth Women.
Chloe Newton scored all four goals for the visitors, while an own goal saw the Cherries leave with a consolation.
In front of a crowd of 350 spectators, Southampton opened the scoring 18 minutes in after some good work by Rachel Woods saw Newton turn in the rebound from her shot.
Seven minutes later and Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side had a second, Newton again converting, this time from Phoebe Williams’ corner.
And Southampton were to add another as the forward completed her hat-trick, slotting home Georgie Freeland’s through ball with a first-time finish.
Following the break, the Cherries started well and clawed a goal back after Southampton turned a corner into their own net, leaving the score at 3-1.
Yet, it wasn’t to be and Newton netted another after latching onto Woods’ pass, finishing into the roof of the net.
After the game, manager Steve Davies spoke to afcb.co.uk.
“Southampton played very well today and deserved their victory,” he began.
“I can’t fault the effort or application of our players. We need to now move on, prepare for Oxford City next week and finish the league strongly.”
The defeat sees the Cherries remain top of the Southern Region Women’s Premier League, but Southampton are now level on points with two games in hand, ensuring a tight end to the season is in store.
