AFC Bournemouth Women lost for the first time this season, with a 1-0 defeat against Moneyfields Ladies on Sunday.

The side now exit the League Cup, but still have an FA Cup first round fixture to come in two weeks time, while they continue to compete in the Southern Region Women’s Premier League.

The game started evenly, with both sides exchanging possession and it took until mid-way through the half for the deadlock to be broken.

Moneyfields forward Kimberly Whitcombe did well to beat the Cherries defence, before firing a shot into the bottom corner.

With just the one goal in it heading into the break, it was all to play for in the second half.

Steve Davies’ side started strongly as they looked for a leveller, with Rosie Eden having a great chance after rounding the ‘keeper and putting the ball wide.

It was centre-back Charlotte Eastman who had the next chance for the Cherries, heading just over from a Katie Kingshott corner.

Minutes later and Maisy Smith went close but was again denied, with Sally-Anne Thompson, the Moneyfields ‘keeper, having an excellent game between the sticks.

As time was running out, the Cherries couldn’t find a goal and it was Moneyfields who progressed in the League Cup with the 1-0 win.
