AFC Bournemouth Women recorded their third straight win, progressing to the next round of the League Cup with a 5-0 win over Eastleigh.
Braces from Chloe Tape and Rosie Eden, as well as a fifth from Jade Hockey ensured the Cherries progressed, as they now look to Sunday’s game with Warsash Wasps.
Eastleigh were quick out of the blocks on Sunday, with Kim Whitcombe putting a brilliant cross into the Cherries box moments into the game, only for it to evade everyone and hit the back post.
Some excellent defending from Steve Davies’ side ensured that Eastleigh were denied a route in, whilst the Cherries soon turned their fortunes around seven minutes in.
Eden was on hand to bag the opener, rounding the keeper and netting into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead.
Just after the half hour mark, it was then Tape’s turn to add to the Cherries’ tally. The 24-year-old was fouled just outside the area and, with no advantage possible, took the free kick, which subsequently flew straight into the corner.
Following the break, Tape added a third after latching onto Chloe Spencer’s ball, rolling the Eastleigh centre-back and slotting home between the ‘keeper and the front post.
With the Cherries in control, the chances kept on coming. Eden added her second of the day with 20 minutes remaining, after scooping the ball over the oncoming Eastleigh ‘keeper for 4-0.
And there was still time for AFC Bournemouth to grab a fifth. Spencer got her second assist of the day, after pulling back from the by-line for Hockey to finish first time.
Following the performance, Steve Davies spoke of his delight to afcb.co.uk.
“It was a really pleasing performance, as Eastleigh were always going to be a big test,” he said.
“It was also great to see things that we’d worked on in training come off in the game.”
