Two goals in the final five minutes meant the under-18s earned a draw in a 3-3 friendly result away at Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.

In a bright start, Noa Boutin fired just wide before Baylin Johnson gave the Cherries the lead after ten minutes when he cut in from the right and finished in the far bottom corner with his left foot.

Bournemouth 'keeper Ollie Camis made a smart reflex save to his right midway through the half before QPR equalised after a defensive lapse gave them he chance to level ahead of the break.

In an even game, the hosts went 2-1 up when a cross from the left was turned home, a third then coming in the 70th minute when a cutback was diverted into the back of the net.

The Cherries lacked a final ball in the search for a fightback but with five minutes remaining substitute Michael Dacosta Gonzalez took his man on one-on-one and created for Johnson to score his second at the back post.

Moments later Alan Connell's side were level, Finn Tonks' delivered a cross from the right which Daniel Adu-Adjei scored from at the near post.

There was still one last chance for the Cherries when Dacosta Gonzalez forced the Hoops' 'keeper into a fine top-corner save at the death.

After the full-time whistle Connell spoke about the game with afcb.co.uk: "I have mixed emotions, we started the game really well on the front foot and created chances; we looked likely to score every time we went forwards.

"As the half went on we were too slow in possession and got caught on the ball too often, that was something we tried to address at half time.

"In the second half we were crisper in our passing, sharper in our movement and we started to get a bit more control of the game, but too often over the course of the 90 minutes our basics such as passing and receiving the ball and making good decisions were not at the standard that I would want and expect.

"When a possession-based team are having difficulty passing the ball it's obviously not the ideal situation, and as a result we found ourselves 3-1 down.

"However, the players deserve huge credit for the way they kept going, and the way they started to get control of the game towards the end of the game - that saw them finish really strongly scoring the two goals and being unlucky not to get the winner right at the end.

"It's a day of mixed emotions but it's a performance we'll look at. My overriding feeling is that there's room for improvement and we're going to have to make those improvements in the coming days and weeks."

After scoring a brace, Connell spoke about forward Johnson and the hard work he's put in to develop his game as a first-year scholar in the side.

"He got released by Arsenal last year and he played quite a lot for us as an under-16s because of our injury situation, playing up front for us," said the manager.

"It was great that he was playing under-18s games but he is naturally a wide player so since the start of this season he's been playing wide where he's definitely more comfortable.

"He puts a lot of work in every day, is desperate to improve his crossing and finishing and he got his rewards today with a lovely first goal - the type of technique that he works on - while his second was all about his desire and his movement to finish off the attack.

"I'm pleased with him, he's got a long way to go and, like they all have, he has things to work on, but with his attitude he's going to give himself every chance."
