The under-18s dominated in a 3-1 win over Swindon Town on Saturday, when Alan Connell's side could have scored further goals.

The Cherries hit the front 20 minutes in when Michael Dacosta Gonzalez headed home at the back post from Baylin Johnson's cross. Daniel Adu-Adjei then had a shot well saved, while Josh Clarke made an impressive stop while it was still 1-0.

Into the second half and the home side soon scored again, Marcus Daws feeding Johnson to net via a deflection.

Swindon had their 'keeper sent off after he upended Daws as the last man, though the visitors soon halved the deficit from a counter attack.

Bournemouth had the final word in the match late on, having already hit the crossbar, Adu-Adjei steering home from Archie Harris' cross.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk after the match, manager Connell gave his opinion on the match: "We knew Swindon would be a difficult game as they've started the season well.

"They surprised us a little bit by sitting off us which gave us a challenge in itself, but I thought the boys used the ball really well, exploited the areas that we've been working on through the week - as a result we created chances.

"The pleasing thing was that we restricted Swindon to probably three shots throughout the game.

"The concentration levels were at a high standard and the biggest thing from today was probably that we had relationships, good chemistry and that all stemmed from a greater communication and information to each other, something we've been looking to improve.

"Overall, it was a convincing performance but there's still lots we can do better. The red card gave us a different scenario; we were already in control and that gave us even more of the ball and even more sustained pressure.

"That was interesting for the players, and generally I thought they handled it well - we just got caught on the counter with their goal.

"It was a pleasing day as we look forward to a tough game away at Plymouth next weekend."

Connell spoke further on full-back Noa Boutin, who celebrated his 18th birthday on the day with a good showing, a year after moving to the Cherries from his native France.

"He produced his usual energetic display, which showed moments of real quality and still bits where he needs to be more consistent, which he knows.

"He missed a lot of the season last year through injury so it's great that he's playing week-in, week-out at the moment.

"He's had a difficult time since moving over, with what's been a difficult time for everybody with the pandemic. He speaks very good English now, which is a credit to his attitude, and hopefully he can keep progressing."
