AFC Bournemouth's under-18s defeated a young Gosport Borough side at Canford Arena this weekend.

Marcus Daws bagged a brace, while there were also goals from Toure Williams, Daniel Adu-Adjei and Baylin Johnson as the Cherries continued their winning streak.

The friendly was a good opportunity for Alan Connell to get crucial minutes into his players ahead of the Christmas break, with a big FA Youth Cup clash at home to QPR to come in January.

Williams opened the scoring in Dorset after just ten minutes, firing his shot home from the left-hand side of the box.

Daws then doubled the lead for the hosts with a fine turn and finish from inside the area, giving Connell's side room to breathe.

However, Gosport struck next in their only real chance of the half and the teams headed into the break separated by a single goal.

After the interval, Daws got his second of the day having beaten his man and subsequently the 'keeper, his low effort finding the corner.

Adu-Adjei then got in on the act, reacting quickest to tap home the rebound after Johnson's shot was saved.

However, Johnson soon ensured his name was on the scoresheet with a well-taken finish one-on-one, ensuring Connell's side came away victorious.

After the game, he shared his thoughts with afcb.co.uk and assessed all areas of the performance.

"We dominated the ball all game against a well organised Gosport side, but it was good for us to practice some things we'd worked on in training," Connell said.

"We had to show a little bit of creativity and craft around their box to try and disrupt their back line - I thought the boys did that well.

"There was some really bright combinations at times and as a result we created a lot of chances. We also had a real hunger to win the ball back when we lost it.

"In both halves I was pleased. We had one lapse of concentration which led to the goal and that was a good reminder for the boys.

"Overall, I thought it was a really worthwhile exercise and Gosport played their part in that. It was a good opportunity for us to get players some minutes that needed them.

"We also tried a couple of players in different positions, switched formation as well so it was a good development day for our players.

"It keeps our recent momentum going ahead of Cheltenham away next week."
