Manager Alan Connell described as “a really good challenge” AFC Bournemouth’s hard-fought 1-1 draw with EFL Youth Alliance South West rivals Swindon Town.
Striker Euan Pollock’s third goal of the season gave the Cherries the perfect start after just 14 seconds at Canford Arena on Saturday.
Pollock (pictured above), who had netted twice in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup win over Yeovil in midweek, powered home a header from a James Oliver cross as the Cherries took the lead straight from kick-off.
However, although the hosts had chances to extend their lead, they were forced to settle for a point after Harry Parsons netted to draw the Robins level on the stroke of half-time.
Connell, who watched his team extend to five games their unbeaten start to the season, told afcb.co.uk: “We had a great start and scored with a nice move. It carried on the recent momentum we had built up in previous games.
“We then had a spell where I thought we would get that killer second goal but it didn’t quite happen. Swindon changed their shape halfway through the first half which made them a bit more solid.
“They scored just before half-time and, as always when you concede, you think you can do something different to prevent it but, unfortunately, we went in at 1-1.
“I felt we had the better chances in the second half and, although we definitely weren’t at our best, I was pleased because we didn’t concede too many opportunities. Even though we didn’t go on to get the winner, I still felt as though we would be the more likely team to score.
“After our recent games which have been quite convincing for us, it was a really tough one. Swindon are always physical and direct and make games difficult which they certainly did. It was a really good challenge for us.
“Ultimately, it was a game where we definitely didn’t hit the heights of recent performances but, at the same time, I think the players would have learned a lot.”
Currently fourth after collecting eight points from their first four games, the Cherries visit third-placed Exeter City on Saturday.
