AFC Bournemouth marked the start of the Andoni Iraola era with an impressive 4-0 win over Hibernian at the Marbella Football Center.

Iraola, appointed Cherries head coach last month, saw his team ease to victory over the Scottish Premiership outfit in the club’s first pre-season friendly.

Goals from David Brooks, Jaidon Anthony and a Phil Billing double topped off an assured display in a match which was played over three 30-minute periods with new signing Justin Kluivert chipping in with two assists.

The Cherries successfully defended three early corners from Hibs before Brooks drew first blood in the sixth minute.

And the first goal under the new head coach was a beauty, Brooks rifling a left-foot shot into the top corner from around 25 yards.

Brooks combined with Wales teammate Kieffer Moore to fashion an opening for Ryan Christie, only for his effort to be diverted for a corner.

Anthony doubled the Cherries’ lead with another finely-taken goal after 13 minutes, the frontman finding the bottom corner of the net.

The goal owed much to the brilliance of Christie, the Scotsman showing great skill in the build-up before teeing up Anthony.

As the Cherries continued to create chances, Moore’s header was blocked by a defender before Anthony fired narrowly wide after working an opening.

The Cherries appealed in vain for a penalty when Christie’s 20th-minute shot struck a defender before another opportunity fell for Iraola’s team.

Brooks nutmegged Hibs midfielder Josh Campbell before squaring for Christie whose goalbound effort was blocked by Rocky Bushiri.

Hibs’ first and only shooting chance of the first period fell to Élie Youan but Cherries goalkeeper Mark Travers dived to his left to keep out the piledriver after 26 minutes.

Darren Randolph replaced Travers for the start of the second period and did well to claim a dangerous free-kick from Dylan Levitt for his first touch.

The Cherries briefly thought they had extended their lead when Brooks poked the ball into the back of the net but he was flagged offside.

A flurry of chances failed to yield a third goal for the Cherries with the Hibs defence throwing themselves in front of everything to block.

Anthony, set up by Christie, went close to adding his second goal when his effort was acrobatically pushed on to the post by Hibs goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott.

Wollacott then snaffled a speculative long-range drive from Moore before Kluivert came on for his first taste of action with the Cherries after 48 minutes.

Randolph had to be alert to parry Adam La Fonde’s cross-shot, the veteran striker having scored against the Cherries for previous clubs Rochdale and Reading.

Jake Doyle-Hayes had a couple of early chances at the start of the third period, the first blocked, the second saved by Neto, Cherries’ third goalkeeper of the game.

Billing’s deft finish made it 3-0 after 67 minutes, the Denmark international clipping the ball past Hibs goalkeeper having been set up by Kluivert.

And after Dango Ouattara had side-footed wide with the goal at his mercy, Doyle-Hayes conjured Hibs’ best chance of the contest, his rasping drive coming crashing back off the crossbar.

Billing had the final say when he unleashed a low drive into the back of the net four minutes from time with Kluivert again the provider.
