AFC Bournemouth returned to the top of the Championship after having the better of a 0-0 draw with fellow high-fliers Swansea City.

The Cherries dominated for long periods and created a host of presentable chances but were unable to find a way past Swans goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

A second clean sheet on their travels was well deserved for Jason Tindall's team as they restricted the hosts to few scoring opportunities on a chilly night in south Wales.

Junior Stanislas returned to the Cherries starting line-up as boss Tindall made one change following the 4-0 win at Barnsley on Friday.

Stanislas came in for striker Sam Surridge who netted seven times during a productive 23-match loan spell with the Swans last season.

The Cherries enjoyed a sustained spell of possession in the early stages and created the first chance when Adam Smith lifted his effort over the crossbar after Diego Rico’s cross had been half cleared.

A second shooting opportunity soon followed when Lewis Cook slipped a pass to Stanislas, the winger clipping the ball narrowly past the upright.

Korey Smith was booked for a late tackle on David Brooks before a penalty appeal fell on deaf ears after Rico’s cross had appeared to strike the arm of Connor Roberts.

Yan Dhanda’s hopeful shot from distance was charged down as the Swans mounted their first noteworthy attack after 15 minutes.

Dom Solanke was put through by Brooks’s defence-splitting pass just three minutes later, only for the striker to scoop his shot high over the crossbar.

Brooks then seized on a wayward clearance from Freddie Woodman, the Swans goalkeeper atoning by blocking the Wales international’s effort from close range.

Asmir Begovic saved comfortably after Jamal Lowe had taken aim from 20 yards before some outstanding tracking back by Phil Billing nipped another Swans break in the bud.

Lewis Cook had his former England under-20 World Cup-winning team-mate Woodman scurrying across his line as the midfielder’s fierce drive flashed past the post.

The Swans had a penalty appeal turned down after Lowe’s volley from the edge of the box had struck Rico in the 40th minute.

Swans defender Joel Latibeaudiere felt the full force of a Brooks piledriver at the start of the second half before Stanislas’s rasping effort flashed inches wide of the upright.

Dhanda could only find the side netting after beating the offside trap with Rico then picking up a fifth booking of the season for a foul on Roberts, ruling him out of the visit of Huddersfield on Saturday.

Adam Smith’s low drive through a crowd of players was blocked before the Swans managed to clear their lines in the 69th minute.

And Solanke’s close-range shot was charged down after Billing had flicked Rico’s pass into his path.

Perhaps the clearest of the penalty shouts came when Brooks went to ground under a challenge from Latibeaudiere but referee Peter Bankes was again unmoved.

Lewis Cook latched on to a short pass from Stanislas and let fly with his left foot from 20 yards, only to see his effort go the wrong side of the upright.

Surridge replaced Brooks for the final eight minutes before Jefferson Lerma came on for Billing five minutes from time.

As the Cherries searched for a late winner, Stanislas poked an effort over the crossbar in the closing stages before Latibeaudiere headed a free-kick from Roberts past the post.
