Liberty goalless as Cherries earn point

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Honours even in south Wales as the Cherries record a goalless draw with Swansea City.

Goalless at half time despite Jordan Ayew hitting the woodwork, Swans midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng escaped with a yellow card after appearing to push the referee in the second half.

Both sides struggled for clear openings as the match neared its conclusion, substitute Leroy Fer having the best chance as he shot at Begovic when in the clear.

The point was earned as the Cherries coped well late on and sealed their third straight Premier League defensive shut out.

There was one alteration to the Cherries' line-up, an enforced one, with Adam Smith coming in for the suspended Simon Francis - the change meaning that Andrew Surman took the captain's armband.

The Swans set about from the off with energy, but the game's first chance came for the away side when Joshua King shrugged off his man wide right and crossed low for Marc Pugh, but the winger scuffed his shot.

The hosts clipped the top of the bar moments later when Ayew got an effort in from a tight angle.

After an even opening, the Cherries were starting to look increasingly comfortable in possession, carving out half a chance for Surman from range, though the skipper's shot was gathered by Lukasz Fabianski.

Both sides showing more perspiration than inspiration in the hunt for the opener, on the half hour King again made space that wasn't there on the wing, found Smith's run and the cut back was only marginally behind Callum Wilson eight yards out.

Swansea full-back Martin Olsson stretched to divert a diagonal ball over the bar, while Renato Sanches found the side netting as he struck an angled shot in from Roque Mesa's pass.

Closing in on the break and King exchanged passes with Pugh at the corner of the area, striking first time on the ball's return - but too close to Fabianski who got his body behind the low shot.

The Swans then thought they'd scored, right on the interval, only for Wilfried Bony's strike to be chalked off for a foul by Ayew on Nathan Ake before the ball fell into the Ivorian's path.

Directly from the restart Asmir Begovic needed to get down quickly to cut out a low centre, while Smith at the other end fired in but wide from 24 yards as he was allowed space.

The home fans were getting loudly behind their side, with the destination of the game's first goal seeming crucial to the direction of the pervading atmosphere within the Liberty Stadium.

A last-ditch defensive header flicked the ball off Wilson's forehead six yards out with Jordon Ibe's follow up comfortable for Fabianski.

The second half struggling to find its flow, the Cherries were starting to threaten more and Ibe's break away found Wilson, who soon saw his shot blocked.

A huge opening then fell the way of the home side as substitute Fer bustled past men and was suddenly bearing down on goal. Begovic saved his first effort well, narrowing the angle as the Fer's follow up was off target.

Charlie Daniels pulled a low shot barely wide in added-on time as the two sides were forced to settle for a point a piece, Bournemouth remaining unbeaten against the Swans in Premier League matches.
