FULL TIME

Despite a frantic late rally, we don't get anything from the game.

A disappointing result at St Mary's - all the post-match reaction will be online at afcbTV as soon as we get it.

Thanks for following our updates today, and we'll see you for another big game against Swansea City.

90: Asmir goes up for a corner...

It's chaos!!

Begovic goes up, it's cleared and Francis has a shot blocked!

Then Fraser has a deflected shot and McCarthy saves again!!

We are creating so much so late on....

89: SO CLOSE!!!

Fraser gets the ball in the area and look set to score!!

But McCarthy is down to save with his legs!!!! That is soooo close...

Afterwards, Surman has a threatening shot on the edge well blocked!

We're heaping the pressure on...

88: Surman fizzes one...

Steve Cook's long throw is half cleared and on the edge of the box, Surman smashes one with three people closing him down, but it nicks wide...

Will we get one last chance?

Final five to go...

82: Last ditch from Cook...

Long piches it just in our half and steams towards goal.

He's in on the 'keeper, but similar to Hoedt on Defoe, Cook comes out of nowhere to get a touch on the ball and nick it away.

77: What a tackle...

Ake slides in Defoe and he looks set to go one-on-one with the 'keeper!!!

It's a big chance, but out of nowhere Wesley Hoedt was able to dangle a leg and get the ball away! You'd back JD if Hoedt wasn't there!

75: Chance!!!

Ake flicks on a long ball and just as Defoe is about to shoot at goal, Maya Yoshida nicks in to slide tackle it away.

A decent opening particularly for Defoe!

15 minutes to play...

73: Somehow it's 2-1...

Southampton should be 3-1 up. We give the ball away and Shane Long got it in the box, he squares for Lemina who has to score but Francis gets a foot on the ball just as it looks like a certain goal.

Phew........

71: Final change...

Andrew Surman comes on to try and turn the tide and give us a bit more stability.

Dan Gosling makes way - that's our final sub.

70: Side netting...

Southampton are enjoying a spell on the front foot at the moment. They're starting to get alot of joy.

Austin gets in the area in plenty of space, but slams his shot into the side netting from an angle.

That's another chance but hopefully we've got out of the storm...

69: Another Begovic save...

It's straight at him, but that's a huge save AGAIN.

Ryan Bertrand got in behind on the left and got in the area, it's a poor strike straight at Begovic despite having the whole goal to aim at, but he has to stand firm to keep it out...

67: Big save...

Begovic somehow keeps out an effort from Shane Long who has come on...

Austin shoots and it falls to Long who takes it first time just outside the six-yard box, somehow Begovic's left foot keeps it out...

Big stop that.

62: Double sub for us...

The boss is ringing the changes.

Off come Wilson and Mousset, on come Jermain Defoe and Jordon Ibe.

Same system, just a change of personnel.

58: Almost!!!

We breakaway and King looks to slide in Wilson...

It's almost a perfect pass but Wilson just couldn't take it in his stride.

Despite the goal we're still on top, we're just lacking that killer ball in the final third.

GOAL for Southampton.

Dusan Tadic scores.

We lose the ball in our own half and he drives towards the box, hits one with the outside of his boot and finds the bottom corner.

That despite being on top for the start of the half.

50: Close!!

Save by McCarthy!

Lewis Cook hits a beautiful effort from 25-yards - it swerves but McCarthy is able to parry!

Unlucky, a really good effort from distance! We've started on top in the second half...

47: Yellow card...

Bednarek booked.

Mousset skins him with a great piece of play and burns him for pace.

When haring towards goal, the Polish defender tugs him back and takes a yellow card for a professional foul.

45: Second half resumes...

A big one ahead. Come on lads!

HALF TIME

Southampton might have been slightly the better team, but we've got our goal thanks to a set play!

Joshua King nipped in just before half time to give us a crucial goal... We've dug in and been rewarded.

A big second half awaits!!

45: GET IN THERE!!

On the stroke of half time!

A corner comes into the box and it's flicked on to the back post where King is there to tap into the roof of the net!

Great stuff that - game on here!!! What a time to score...

GOALLLLLLLLL!

WE ARE LEVELLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

JOSHUA KING!!!!!!!!!!

44: Save by McCarthy!

Nathan Ake goes close!!!

A set play is kept around the box and Mousset shoots - it falls for Ake who turns superbly and strikes one from eight-yards - it looks like it's going in as McCarthy dives the wrong way but he dangles a leg to somehow save it.

That is so unlucky!!

Trying to get back in it...

32: Another save by Begovic!

This time to deny Mario Lemina.

He strikes a sweet half-volley which Begovic throws himself at - at full stretch - to tip only just past the post.

Two big saves from Begovic.

29: Save by Begovic...

Charlie Austin peels wide right and gets the ball in space.

He drives towards the area but just outside, opts to smash a shot which is well parried away by Begovic.

Southampton on top at the moment after the goal.

GOAL for Southampton.

They break on us from our own corner and score.

Nathan Redmond slips it to Mario Lemina and him and Dusan Tadic are two v one with Daniels.

You could see it coming, a square pass from Lemina to Tadic and he finishes low past Asmir Begovic.

1-0 down.

24: Chance!!

Mousset slings a clever ball down the line for Ryan Fraser to chase...

He's in behind the backline out wide and gets near the area, whipping in a lovely cross but it's just cleared!

20: Still nothing in it...

We did have a good opening moments ago, with Charlie Daniels bombing down the left.

He has Mousset and Wilson to aim for, he tries to slide to it Wilson but the pass is just overhit. A better pass and Wilson could square to Mousset in plenty of space.

Unlucky though, decent move! Still a tight game...

14: Two great blocks!!!

Steve Cook and Simon Francis to the rescue.

Saints are having a spell here...

A cut back from Dusan Tadic finds Nathan Redmond who pulls the trigger - it looks really dangerous but Cook flings his body at it!

The rebound falls to a Saints player in area and this time, the skipper charges down an effort in the area! Great defending...

11: Nearly an own goal!

Jan Bednarek almost passes it in!

Bizarre! Lys Mousset puts in a cross and it's not threatening as nobody is coming into the box.

I'm not sure why, but Bednarek side footed to clear but it's almost as if he's trying to finish in the bottom corner - it flashes just wide!!

Really close to a freak goal!

10: A tense start...

Good tackles flying in, a good atmosphere, it feels like a derby!

We've not been at our fluent best as yet, looking to approach it more directly with balls into Callum Wilson to hold and we look to build from that.

We have got in a few dangerous areas but haven't threatened goal yet - but neither have Saints.

04: Early yellow...

Barely four minutes in and Lewis Cook has been booked.

It just looked like a normal tussle, but the referee has booked Cook once the ball has gone.

Not ideal. As for our start, we're looking to get it up to the front three very quickly, a bit more of a direct approach so far.

01: We're underway...

BIGGGG atmosphere being generated by both sets of fans!

Dan Gosling kicks us off and we'll attack away from our travelling fans this half.

Come on lads!

The players are out...

Skipper Simon Francis leads the team out in their blue away kit...

Let's get it lads!

They're being roared on by 3400 fans who are in great voice as we're close to getting underway.

Good atmosphere here!

Attack attack attack...

Head to head...

It's a little mixed really.

We haven't won at St Mary's in any competition, we've lost eight and drawn five. Last year, Harry Arter's penalty was almost the difference in our 0-0 draw.

Our only win in the last nine games against Saints was in our first Premier League season, the 2-0 home win with Steve Cook and Benik Afobe scoring in March 2016.

One to watch...

We all know about Charlie Austin's pedigree, none more so than Eddie Howe.

Austin has scored two in his last six and has already notched one against us this season - in the 1-1 draw at Vitality Stadium.

He has seven this campaign and his return from injury has boosted Saints ahead of today's game.

Here's hoping we can stop the supply into the poacher today.

Nathan Ake...

Half a century!

This will be his 50th appearance for the club - top work Nath and hopefully many many more to come...

The team is in!

Lys Mousset starts for us at St Mary's today - with Tyrone Mings returning to the bench.

It looks like a very attacking line up with Joshua King, Mousset and Callum Wilson all starting in the same team.

Cherries XI: Begovic; Fraser, Francis, S Cook, Ake, Daniels; Gosling, L Cook; King, Mousset Wilson.

Subs: Boruc, B Smith, Mings, Surman, Pugh, Ibe, Defoe.

Motivation...

"I'm desperate for us to consolidate ourselves as a Premier League club. We've still got to get over the line.

"We haven't beaten them at their stadium and I think that's another motivation for us, it's another thing we would love to do."

Well said, boss!

Will this mentality change things today?

We spoke to BBC Solent's Sports Editor Adam Blackmore and he gave us the lowdown on how the hosts will approach the game against us.

It could make a difference today - do we play on the break to counter?

He said: "Mark Hughes has said that they must throw the kitchen sink at their remaining games, and I agree with him.

"They have to beat Bournemouth and Everton, two teams who don’t really have anything to play for, so that they have a chance at getting above Swansea when they travel there in the penultimate fixture.

"Hughes understands that Bournemouth would love to get one over Southampton at St Mary’s, but the rivalry isn’t the main concern, it’s about how Southampton can get a result."

Injury news...

The manager revealed this week that Adam Smith will still be absent from this game, with next week looking more likely for a return.

He's progressed better than we'd hoped though as we initially thought his season would be over.

Also missing from today's squad will be Harry Arter, who has picked up an achilles injury.

A quick start needed perhaps?

Looking at our record across the season, we've fallen behind in 25 Premier League games this season - that's more than anyone else.

However, with that comes the stat that we've won a league-high 18 points from losing positions, while 32% of our goals have been scored after the 75th minute.

They're some stats!

Let's start off with the visitors...

... how do they shape up heading into a massive game?

Well, they have gone nine league matches without a win at St Mary's, drawing five and losing four.

They're also rock bottom of the form table with three points from their past eight home and away fixtures.

So it's not looking good for them at the moment but with a raucous atmosphere and a must-win environment, who knows what will happen!

Welcome...

It's a big game on the south coast!

We're live at St Mary's for a game that some dub a derby, but others say it's just a local fixture.

Either way it's got massive implications for both clubs, a win could see us safe and Southampton need to win to claw themselves in with a chance of survival.
