Cherries come from behind twice to secure point in 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls took an early lead when Anthony Knockaert converted from close in, though the Cherries were level when Steve Cook rose to head home a corner.

Following the interval the hosts rapidly restored their lead through former Bournemouth striker Glenn Murray, but the away side made things even for a second time when Callum Wilson diverted a loose ball home in the closing stages. 

Both teams looked for a late winner, but amidst the mud both sides were made to settle for a point a piece to start 2018. 

With back-to-back matches in under 48 hours, there were four changes to Eddie Howe's starting line up at the Amex.

Charlie Daniels returned from injury and joined Harry Arter, Benik Afobe and Marc Pugh in from the off, while Joshua King and Ryan Fraser didn't feature in the matchday squad due to injury.

The falling amidst chilly conditions in East Sussex, the game got off to a goalscoring start for the home side five minutes in.

Pascal Gross on the edge of the box diverted a smart ball for Jose Izquierdo, the Colombian's cross-shot falling perfectly for Knockaert at the far post to finish into the unguarded net.

Izquierdo soon threatened again as he cut inside and flashed in a shot from 25 yards that was only marginally wide of Asmir Begovic's upright.

The Cherries looking to fightback, a good low ball in from Daniels picked out Wilson, the striker's swished strike going a yard wide.

A succession of corners came to nothing for the visitors as the rain became only more heavy at the Amex.

Knockaert broke into space as Brighton countered, feeding through for Murray. The frontman shot first time but Begovic made a fine save to deny him.

Jordon Ibe rushed past bodies into space and fired in an effort that Seagulls 'keeper Mat Ryan saved well, the rebound back to the Cherries winger but his second shot was blocked.

Ibe did then have a major part to play as the Cherries drew level just past the half hour.

The wide man's corner picked out Steve Cook and the towering header that followed looped over Ryan and in off the underside of the crossbar, the defender equalising against his first professional side.

Looking for a quick second a driven Daniels freekick needed saving by Ryan's strong wrists, before a Pugh rampage found Wilson at the back post, his turn and swivel deflecting kindly for Ryan.

However, before the break the home side had a golden opportunity when Izquierdo finished low from eight yards but was stopped brilliantly by Begovic's outstretched leg.

Pugh went as close within a minute when Lewis Cook's right-wing run picked out the centring winger, his shot saved low down by the Brighton 'keeper.

The half came to an end with the quick fixture turnaround and a heavy pitch doing little to dampen an entertaining and open encounter.

Within 150 seconds of the restart Brighton were in the lead again after the likely figure of Murray netted.

The dangerous Izquierdo was again instrumental, powering down the left and cutting back for Murray who finished with defenders scrambling on the line ahead of him.

Ibe was busy again, played in, but unable to loft a finish over Ryan from close range, while at the other end Knockaert kept Begovic honest with a bouncing shot from 24 yards.

Brighton pushing for a third, Steve Cook made a strong block to charge down Knockaert before doing likewise to Shane Duffy following a corner.

A change of tack came for the Cherries on the hour, Nathan Ake coming on in a move that saw Adam Smith move to the left wing and Simon Francis to right back.

The strong band of Cherries fans felt their side should have been awarded a penalty after Ezequiel Schelotto appeared to push Wilson in the back, but referee Michael Oliver waved away the calls.

Izquierdo himself carved out the chance to add a goal to his two assists when he countered solo from close to his box, into the Cherries' area and Begovic was able to break out to smother the winger's effort.

Dan Gosling came on for Arter in the visitors' final change, Ibe then hitting the face of the post after jinking into space and firing low from the edge of the area.

With just over ten minutes to go, Wilson pulled the Cherries level again with a scrambled goal.

A corner from Ibe caused havoc, raised penalty shouts and couldn't be cleared, the ball eventually rebounding off Smith and in via the outstretched touch of Wilson's boot.

Wilson shuffled his feet and struck well from an angle, Ryan holding securely as the away side sensed a winner.

With three minutes added on Bournemouth were on the hunt for their third late goal in three matches, but it wasn't to be as the year got under way with an away point.
