AFC Bournemouth exit the FA Cup in south London.
An early goal from Steve Morison was enough to give the Lions the lead at the break, while Shaun Cummings’ effort five minutes into the second-half and a late Shane Ferguson strike ensured a place in the hat for the hosts.
The Cherries made 11 changes from the side that drew against Arsenal on Tuesday, with Jordan Lee making his first start for the club and the likes of Tyrone Mings, Marc Wilson and Lewis Grabban all being handed starts.
Early pressure from the home side almost saw the Lions strike first, after Lee Gregory challenged Adam Federici and the ball fell kindly to Morison, but the striker couldn’t convert from close range.
It was Millwall who continued to press within the opening ten minutes, with Jordon Ibe caught in possession and Gregory played in, only for the offside flag to be raised just as he was through on goal.
Bournemouth’s first chance of the game soon followed as Ibe teed up Brad Smith, but the defender’s shot flashed over the bar from 25 yards out.
However, it was the Lions that made their possession count.
A Shaun Williams corner was met by Morison, whose near-post header was perfectly placed beyond Federici for 1-0.
Neil Harris’ side continued to press following the opener, after Fred Onyedinma played in the increasingly dangerous Gregory, but the forward dragged his shot wide while one-on-one with Federici.
Up the other end of the pitch, a corner was played short and Emerson Hyndman worked his way into a shooting position, but his effort from distance flew into the side netting and failed to trouble Jordan Archer.
Another Cherries chance materialised moments later, after good work for Jordan Lee down the right-hand side enabled Grabban to be found in the box, however nothing came of the move and Eddie Howe’s side went into the break 1-0 down.
Bournemouth began the second half as they had left off, after a dangerous cross from Marc Pugh was met by Lys Mousset, but he could not divert his header goalwards.
Nevertheless, the Cherries were made to pay for their missed chances as the hosts soon doubled their lead.
A powerful shot from Morison was palmed away by Federici, only for the rebound to fall kindly to Cummings who slotted home inches out.
The home side were soon on the attack once again, this time with second-half substitute Shane Ferguson, but his powerful run and low shot was not enough to beat Federici.
As the clock ticked away, the Cherries flooded men forward but couldn’t find the crucial breakthrough needed.
Ibe saw his shot well saved by Archer before substitute Callum Wilson had his effort blocked inside the area.
Minutes later, Mousset worked his way into the Lions box however couldn’t pick out a Bournemouth man, while nothing came of the resulting corner.
A late injury blow saw Marc Wilson limp off, as the Cherries ended the game with ten men.
And to compound matters, when out-numbered at the back, the home side added a third late on, as Ferguson's low strike from the angle found the bottom corner on what was a frustrating afternoon for the travelling 1,500 away supporters.
