A late strike from Joshua King gave Liverpool no time to respond and the Cherries came away from Anfield with a point for their efforts.

Benik Afobe gave the visitors a sensational early lead as he took advantage of a Liverpool defensive lapse, with Philippe Coutinho equalising for Liverpool just before half time.

On the hour Divock Origi put the hosts ahead with a close-range header, a goal that seemed to be the winner until Joshua King's late leveller claimed the visitors a share of the spoils.

There were three changes to the Cherries' line-up for the match, with Jack Wilshere, Harry Arter and Jordon Ibe all coming into the midfield. Andrew Surman and Dan Gosling missed out through injury while Ryan Fraser took up a place on the bench.

Following a minute of applause in memory of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster, Liverpool kicked off and came close within 60 seconds; Roberto Firmino whistling a shot over the bar.

However, the Cherries had the better of the opening moments and grabbed the lead after seven minutes.

Georginio Wijnaldum's back pass was underhit and seized upon by Afobe, the striker poking his low finish beyond the onrushing Simon Mignolet for the Cherries' first Premier League goal at Anfield.

There followed ten minutes of concerted home pressure with the ball spending plenty of time in the Cherries' box but not ever falling to a Liverpool attacker in a goalscoring position.

Despite the home side's domination it was Bournemouth and Marc Pugh closest to the game's next goal. Simon Francis' corner was flicked on and Pugh's textbook back-post volley flashed millimetres wide.

Wijnaldum tested Artur Boruc's handling with a low drive from a half-cleared corner, while at the other end King outpaced the home defence and struck a bouncing volley narrowly over.

Coutinho hit the side netting with a free kick and Firmino saw a shot saved by Boruc as Bournemouth closed in a half-time lead.

However, Coutinho ensured the teams entered the break at 1-1 when he beat the offside trap to skip onto a neat Firmino pass, keeping his nerve to level the scores.

Boruc pulled off a superlative save early in the second period to keep the hosts from going ahead, the Polish 'keeper diverting Nathaniel Clyne's 25-yard strike onto the underside of the crossbar at full stretch.

Liverpool were laying on the pressure again with first Clyne and then Wijnaldum firing in efforts off target, before Origi put the home side ahead on 59 minutes.

Wijnaldum shuffled into space in the left-hand side of the area and crossed for the Belgium international to head home from within the six-yard box.

The Cherries came out of their shells looking to strike back, Charlie Daniels' flashing centre just eluding King in the centre.

Into the final ten minutes and Bournemouth were enjoying the lion's share of possession but unable to penetrate a deeper-lying Liverpool backline.

The late possession counted, however, as King netted a goal to draw the Cherries level.

Daniels' cross was cleared as far as Arter whose shot rattled into King's path, the Norwegian swivelling and finishing from eight yards before galloping to the jubilant away fans in the corner of the Anfield Road End.

Substitute Joel Matip headed a corner inches wide as Liverpool looked for a late winner, before in added time Ragnar Klavan's header was held by Boruc.

The Cherries held firm to the end and ensured their unbeaten streak stretched to five games with their Merseyside point.
