AFC Bournemouth's development squad were 2-1 winners away to Millwall on Monday afternoon after a tight contest in the capital.

The Lions, who hadn't lost a league game all season, started strongly and were ahead after just 90 seconds, Abdul Abdulmalik winning the ball on the edge of the area and picking out Romain Esse in the box.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead with a little over 20 minutes on the clock, as the Cherries were forced to clear Kamarl Grant’s header from Fin Cotton’s corner off the line.

However, Alan Connell's side stayed strong and got the all-important next goal as Balraj Landa finished with a first-time effort inside the area.

With the scores level at half-time, the Cherries started the second period strongest and were ahead just four minutes in. Daniel Adu-Adjei was on the end of Finn Tonks' ball into the box, before rounding the 'keeper to convert.

Ferdinand Okoh almost added a third for the south coast outfit after a dipping effort came back off the crossbar, before Michael Dacosta Gonzalez went through on goal but fired his effort just wide.

Connell's side kept on coming despite needing to be resolute at the back, clearing a handful of Millwall corners. A final chance fell the way of Adu-Adjei after Nathan Moriah-Welsh flashed a ball across the face of goal, but the forward couldn't quite get the touch it required to finish beyond the 'keeper.

The win sees the Cherries leapfrog their opponents in the Professional Development League as they end the day in second. The side have 19 points from nine games and have the opportunity to go top should they win their game in hand against Cardiff City.

Next up, the squad host Swansea City on Tuesday 7th November at Wimborne Town, with kick-off at 1pm. Entry is free for all to attend.
