First-half strikes not enough for Cherries at Brentford B

A first-half double from frontman Daniel Adu-Adjei proved in vain as AFC Bournemouth’s development squad suffered a 6-2 defeat against Brentford B.

Alan Connell’s side led 2-1 at half-time thanks to two neat finishes from the striker, but were left to ponder a reverse in the second annual Robert Rowan Invitational.

The friendly commemorated the life of former Brentford technical director Rowan, who sadly passed away in 2018 due to an undiagnosed heart condition at the age of 28.

All proceeds from the fixture are set to be donated to fund sports cardiology research at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity, as part of Brentford’s Heart of West London campaign.

After Daniel Oyegoke’s opener for the Bees at Gtech Community Stadium, the Cherries drew level on 33 minutes.

After good work from Max Kinsey and Michael Dacosta Gonzalez, Finn Tonks crossed for Adu-Adjei to net his 24th goal of the campaign for the Cherries.

And the striker then doubled his tally for the evening. He latched on to Kian Tydeman’s pass to apply a neat finish at the near post.

But following the break, the Cherries failed to stop the Bees running riot. Mukhammadali Urinboev levelled the scored at 2-2 on 66 minutes before Ryan Trevitt put the hosts ahead.

Trevitt then converted his second from the penalty spot before Max Dickov, son of former Manchester City striker Paul Dickov, made it 5-2.

Ethan Laidlaw made added a sixth for the Bees in stoppage time with a fine strike from 25 yards.

The Cherries are back in competitive action when they host Crewe Alexandra in the Professional Development League on Tuesday.

AFC Bournemouth: Crisp, Tonks (Trialist, 62), Greenwood, Brown, Kinsey, Harris, Williams, Landa (Wadham, 62), Adu-Adjei, Dacosta Gonzalez (Rees-Dottin, 62), Tydeman (Stuttle, 52).
