Goals from Sheffield United’s Ryan One and Fernando Macedo meant the AFC Bournemouth development squad fell to a 2-0 defeat at Vitality Stadium.

The Blades duo struck either side of the interval during the Professional Development League clash, meaning Alan Connell’s side slipped to their ninth league loss of the season.

With Cherries first-team head coach Andoni Iraola and his staff watching on from the stands, the visitors got off to a rapid start.

After Louie Marsh’s free-kick cannoned into the wall, the Blades took the lead on seven minutes.

Skipper Owen Hampson’s neat through ball allowed One the opportunity to apply a tidy finish past Cherries keeper Cal McKenna.

Shortly after, the Cherries looked to respond. Kian Tydeman’s neat pass allowed Ash Clarke to fire at goal, only for his strike to deflect wide off a defender.

A slick counter-attack from the hosts almost got them back in the contest. Arche Harris set Clarke free out wide.

He combined with Tydeman before Michael Dacosta Gonzalez’s strike worked Blades keeper Luke Faxon.

Still searching for a leveller, Tydeman steered the ball across goal, with a touch from Sheffield United’s Zain Tahir almost turning it in at the far post.

But the Blades kept showing their threat and grabbed a second five minutes from time. Macedo’s near-post finish from inside the box wrapped up the contest.

The Cherries kept working, with Tydeman forcing a sharp save from Faxon late on but it proved not enough for Connell’s charges.

AFC Bournemouth: McKenna, Tonks, Osborne (Rees-Dottin, 81), Brown, Kinsey, Harris, Williams, Sadi, Clarke (Johnson, 56), Dacosta Gonzalez (Stuttle, 61), Tydeman.

Unused subs: William, Crisp (g/k).
