“I loved the way that we mixed our game up” – Connell

The development squad maintained their winning start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Peterborough United.

Hosting the Posh at Wimborne Town’s New Cuthbury headquarters, a second-half penalty from Daniel Adu-Adjei downed the visitors.

Victory over Peterborough followed a 2-0 triumph against Coventry City in the team’s season opener, meaning the Cherries have enjoyed a 100% start to live in the Professional Development League.

“I thought it was a really entertaining game full of chances at both ends,” manager Alan Connell told afcb.co.uk after the game. “It was a very physical battle.

“Peterborough had five first-team players playing that have got significant experience in the EFL, so that was a great test for our players; I thought we stood up to that really well.

“There were always going to be some duals that we might come out second best in because they had some powerful players.”

Despite being met with that physicality, the development squad managed to hold their own and force chances in either half.

Both Ben Greenwood and Kian Tydeman struck the crossbar either side of the half-time break as the Cherries threatened an opener before Adu-Adjei’s spot-kick.

The Posh gave as good as they got in the entertaining clash, with the two goalkeepers impressing throughout the proceedings.

“I loved the way that we competed and kept going,” Connell added on his team’s performance.

“I loved the way that we mixed our game up, we were happy to go over their press and also happy to try and play through it.

“We had good variety in our game and I loved the way that we stayed in the contest.”

The development squad are next in action in the Professional Development League on Tuesday 29th August, when they face Barnsley at Oakwell Stadium in a 1pm kick-off.
