A superb first-half showing paved the way for AFC Bournemouth to register a convincing 4-0 win over Professional Development League counterparts Bristol City on Tuesday.

Goals from Max Kinsey, Michael Dacosta Gonzalez and Toure Williams saw the Cherries reach the break leading 3-0 at Wimborne Town’s New Cuthbury headquarters.

Finn Tonks, who supplied the assist for Kinsey’s opener, capped an excellent individual display by completing the scoring with an emphatic finish early in the second half.

Dacosta Gonzalez went close to giving the Cherries an early lead when he headed narrowly over the crossbar after meeting Noa Boutin’s deep centre.

The Robins responded with two efforts from Dylan Kadji flashing past Cam Plain’s right and left post before Boutin’s thunderous drive was saved by visiting goalkeeper Joe Duncan.

Daniel Adu-Adjei just failed to make contact with Finn Tonks’s driven, low cross before the Cherries drew first blood through skipper Kinsey in the tenth minute.

The defender was on hand to poke the ball home from close range after Tonks had squared the ball into his path, the move started by Ben Greenwood’s corner.

Duncan saved with his legs after Nathan Moriah-Welsh had taken aim having been slipped in by Greenwood’s defence-splitting free-kick in the 19th minute.

The Cherries doubled their lead following an excellent move in the 24th minute, Dacosta Gonzalez sweeping home Moriah-Welsh’s cross after he had linked with Williams to open up the City defence.

And the hosts quickly added a third when Williams finished assuredly past Duncan after the City goalkeeper’s clearance had fallen to Moriah-Welsh who doubled his assist tally.

Cam Plain saved comfortably after Raph Araoye had met Sam Pearson’s free-kick with a firm header before Tonks’s effort drifted past the post following a driving run by the full-back.

Pearson’s effort flew wide at the start of the second half before Williams was denied a second goal when Duncan, having gifted possession to Jack Wadham, atoned by parrying the midfielder’s shot.

Gavin Kilkenny’s piledriver from the edge of the box was deflected for a corner with Daniel Adu-Adjei seeing his flick cleared off the line from Greenwood’s delivery.

The Cherries extended their lead following another Greenwood corner, Tonks emphatically drilling the ball into the roof of the net in the 53rd minute.

Robins goalkeeper Duncan made a smart double save, keeping out Moriah-Welsh’s venomous strike and blocking Wadham’s follow-up effort.

And after Plain had smothered Backwell’s drive, Kilkenny drew an acrobatic save from Duncan after letting fly with a blistering left-foot shot from the edge of the box.

In the closing stages, Plain pulled off a top-drawer save to tip Pearson’s rasping drive over the crossbar and kept out Araoye’s header from the resultant corner.
