The under-21s lost 1-0 to a strong Portsmouth team in their latest friendly ahead of the new season.
Reeco Hackett-Fairchild gave the visitors the lead with a clean first-half strike, the goal enough for Pompey to hold an interval lead.
Striker Jake Scrimshaw carried the Cherries' greatest threat throughout - hitting an upright after the restart - and the home side improved as the match went on but were unable to find a leveller.
Bournemouth lined up against a Pompey side who were fielding a number of first-team players, Cameron Plain saving early on from a Hackett-Fairchild shot.
Midway through the first half and Hackett-Fairchild netted the goal he’d been hinting at in the early stages when he turned on the edge of the box and fired into the top corner.
Scrimshaw broke the offside line to carve out a chance for himself, lofting his shot over the ‘keeper but also beating the far post as the Cherries came close to an immediate response.
New Portsmouth signing George Hirst had a low shot saved by Plain before Ryan Glover was felled in the box for the hosts, the referee waving away his claims for a spot kick.
Scrimshaw again chased a through ball, just lost the foot race with as ‘keeper rushed off his line, Portsmouth a goal ahead at half time.
Ollie Palmer replaced Noa Boutin in the Cherries’ only changed.
Hackett-Fairchild took on a low shot that Plain was equal to, dropping down to his right.
A Bournemouth break allowed Scrimshaw a shot at goal from an angle, a deflection seeing the ball divert onto the post and away as the home side got their closest yet to an equaliser.
A dangerously-placed Cherries free-kick cleared the crossbar, Callum Johnson the latest away attacker to test Plain with a shot at the other end.
The octane remained high to the final whistle despite the an injury meaning the Cherries were forced to finish with ten men - Pompey’s opening-period strike the one to win the match at Canford Arena.
