The Cherries youth team lost 4-0 at home against Plymouth on Saturday, a scoreline that flattered the visitors. Plymouth were the stronger side throughout and certainly the more experienced, but it was two late, late goals that put the gloss for them on the scoreline.
An own goal on 19 minutes put the visitors ahead, but before the break, Dan Strugnell and Paddy Hester both had chances to draw the Cherries level.
Matt Rickard put Argyle two up on 70 minutes, which was tough luck on keeper Ed Tierney. He made a superb save, but the ball span away from him. That signalled the start of heavy Bournemouth pressure, with Strugnell coming closest. He saw a powerful header cleared off the line.
With the Cherries pushing forward, Argyle ended with a flattering scoreline with two goals in time added on. Jed Harper-Penman scored one and set one up to make it 4-0.
Joe Roach said after the game, "It's difficult to have so many first years and a couple of schoolboys involved against a physical side like Plymouth. These are things they will have to come to terms with and is all part of their development as players. I was pleased that we kept trying to play the right way and with a little luck, they would have got reward in front of goal."
