MATT OLDRING

Posted on: Sun 20 Dec 2009

Local lad Matt Oldring led the Cherries youth side out at Premier League ground, The Reebok Stadium, on Friday night with immense pride.  The side had overcome difficult ties at Bristol Rovers and AFC Wimbledon to earn such a high profile game and although the game ended in disappointment with a 3-1 defeat, the whole squad could hold their heads up high.

Matt told www.afcb.co.uk, "It was the proudest moment in my career so far to lead the lads out at a big Premier League ground, it was just disappointing not to get a result at the end of it.

We were causing them problems all over the pitch, but then they got a man sent off and went very narrow after that and if anything, that made it harder.  It was one of the most narrow pitches I've played on and that made it hard to get the ball out wide where we could have hurt them.

We're disappointed with all the goals we conceded, and their big lad twice got between us to score and for the third goal, we should have played the ball out, but just hooked it out and it came straight back and we were switched on to it.

I was pleased with my performance and all the lads.  It's not about me though, it's about the team and one of my mistakes led to their third goal, so I have to look on that and work on it in the league games.

It was a great experience for all of us though, and although we are all bitterly disappointed to go out of the cup, we all did our best but it just wasn't to be,"
