SHAUN COOPER

Posted on: Thu 01 Apr 2010

Shaun Cooper made a shock return to first team action last Saturday, but is fully aware that if players come back, he could well be on the bench given his long time on the sidelines.

Cooper put a splendid performance in the heart of defence last week, even though he was highly self critical of his showing!  With players hopefully returning soon, Shaun is aware that he could soon be back out of the side, but he fully understands that, "That is the only sensible option.  The rest of the team have been brilliant all season, but if Eddie needs me I will play wherever he asks me to play.  I'm well aware that I'm not 100%, not so much fitness wise, but match sharpness and I would have been very disappointed with how I played last week if I had not been out for eleven months.

Eddie has to do what he feels is right for the team and I fully understand whatever decision he has to make.  I've been out for nearly a year and everybody knows what the sensible decision would be.

I missed out on a special day last season, but we achieved what we set out to do by staying in the league.  This season, as long as we go up automatically, I honestly don't care how we do it or whether I'm in the team or not, as long as we do it!"

Shaun Cooper is the subject of the A to Z in this Saturday's matchday programme.
