Cats Protection and AFC Bournemouth held a special photo-shoot to highlight the problem of homeless cats in the Bournemouth area.
The cat charity's Bournemouth and District branch is currently full to bursting with 42 unwanted cats in desperate need of new homes - and another 55 on its waiting list.
As a result Cherries Director of Operations Adam Murry, manager Eddie Howe and defender Warren Cummings visited the branch yesterday to make a plea for homes and urge support for a new Cats Protection centre that is due to open in the late-spring.
Defender Warren Cummings said: "I decided to go along as I have a pet cat who brings a lot of fun, warmth and affection to me and my family."
"It's therefore sad to see so many of these loving animals sitting alone in cat pens whilst they wait for a new owner. The branch does its best to look after them, but what these cats need is a permanent home, so I'd really urge Cherries supporters to adopt a cat or make a donation to help the branch."
Cats in need of homes include Patch, a four-year-old black and white cat who came to the branch after his owners moved house and couldn't take him with them. Patch is a very shy cat and the branch is hoping to find him a quiet home with an owner who can spend a bit of time coaxing him out of his shell. Other cats include Bella and Jess, two tabby-and-white siblings who the branch is keen to home as a pair.
The club is also encouraging supporters to make a donation to the charity's Ferndown Homing Centre Appeal. Currently under construction, the centre will hold cats that are ready for adoption, making it easier and quicker for the public to adopt a cat. Cats would be received from branches like Bournemouth and District, freeing up space so that they can help more unwanted cats.
Adam Murry said: "The Ferndown Homing Centre is an exciting project for Cats Protection as it will help them to guarantee a brighter future for many more unwanted cats across the south. Myself, Eddie and Warren were delighted to support the charity with their exciting new initiative, and we hope Cherries supporters do the same."
