Brett Pitman was on target from the penalty spot for Bournemouth, but couldn't help prevent the side from going down to a 2-1 defeat against an excellent Charlton side at Dean Court in front of a 1,845 crowd.

Brett Pitman scores from the penalty spot.
Charlton had already looked dangerous before they took the lead midway through the first half. Matthew Spring's free kick was deflected in to the path of Therry Racon. Charlton then had a goal ruled out as they were well on top. Steve Fletcher came close to an equaliser from a header, but the Cherries were level before the break from a hotly disputed penalty.
A cross cannoned on to a visiting defender, who had little chance to avoid the ball, but the spot kick was awarded, and Pitman netted with aplomb.
A number of changes were made at half time with Steve Lovell and Jeff Goulding up front. Goulding though lasted a mater of minutes after receiving a dead leg and was replaced by Marvin Bartley.
It didn't take long for Charlton to retake the lead with a good finish from Lloyd Sam. The visitors then rattled the woodwork, but so did the Cherries thanks to a fantastic strike from Sammy Igoe which flew back off the frame of the goal. The game certainly had a competitive edge to it with a number of crunching challenges and even a booking, but at the final whistle, Charlton were good value for the win.
After the game, a disappointed Eddie Howe said; "I thought Charlton were excellent and they gave us probably our toughest game of pre season. I thought we looked a little off it today for whatever reason and maybe it's a wake up call ahead of the season. I felt that Charlton were better than us in all departments and I can't complain and we got what we deserved."
