DANNY HOLLANDS

Posted on: Sat 01 Aug 2009

It has been a frustrating pre-season for newly installed club captain Danny Hollands.  A knee injury has ruled him out of virtually all the games.  After a scan two weeks ago, he saw a specialist this week and after an injection, is hopeful to start jogging at the weekend.

Danny explained to www.afcb.co.uk his hopes of being fit for the seasons opener; "I saw the specialist and will have a jog over the weekend, so it's fingers crossed that it goes well.  I hope to be fit for the Bury game and it's good to know that after seeing him, I can start to plan instead of everything being up in the air.

I'm like any other player, I don't want to miss the start of the season, I want to be fit and ready to go.  I have to catch up with a bit of training, but I'm going to work hard to make sure I can get back as soon as possible.  It's very frustrating, particularly after having to miss the start of last season because of the operation and it will be disappointing to do that again.  I will remain optimistic, but if I do have to miss a couple of weeks, I will be determined to get back as soon as possible.

I've had to watch the games, but the lads have put in some good performances during pre season.  They all look fit and ready to go.  At the game at Dorchester, they looked even fitter and sharper, so I think they are almost there for the start of the season and that is the main thing.

We have a hard schedule at the start of the season with a small squad, so we know how tough it's going to be.  The lads though will be ready and prepared for it.  We may not have the numbers, but we have got good depth in the squad with players who can come in and do a great job if someone from the starting eleven does get injured.  In pre season, every player that has put on the shirt has done well and everyone is just hoping to put the three points on the board from the first game at Bury."
