RYAN GARRY

Posted on: Mon 29 Jun 2009

The Cherries players report back to pre season training this week and central defender Ryan Garry can't wait to get back in to the swing of things as the side start their preparations for the 2009-10 season.

Many people may think that such a long period off would be nice, but Ryan told www.afcb.co.uk that he is itching to get back in to training; "I'm looking forward to getting back in to it.  It's been a seven week break and I'm getting a bit bored!  I want to get back in to training.

We achieved what we set out to do last season, and that was to stay in the league which was important.  I think we have to reverse the aims this season and look to be up at the other part of the table.  I think we're capable of that and it would make a change from the last two seasons when we've been down at the bottom and had pressurised ends to the season.  Hopefully we will still have pressure, but it will be in a better way.

A couple of days before the start of last season we were hot by the 17 point deduction and there were a lot of repercussions from that, both mentally and all the other aspects regarding attendances etc.  We are starting on a level playing field which is nice and we go in to the first game at Bury looking for three points and a good start to the season.

I know that Bournemouth are notorious for slow starts and we have to reverse that trend.  We want a good start to the season as that is so important.  Everyone goes through a dip at one point in the season, but if you can get off to a good start that can hold you in good stead.  We have it all to do when we go to Bury for the first game because they are a strong side.  They have a lot of experience in their squad and made the play off semi finals last season and I believe they will be challenging again this season.  It will be a good game, it will be a tough game as all games will be as it's a strong league this season.

We earned respect last season because we were up against it from the start.  We beat a lot of the teams that were up at the top of the table, so to a degree, I think a few people will be looking at us this season as a team to watch out for.  We proved that we could beat anyone last season and we have to do the same again.

Before we can think about the league, we have pre season, which is hard work and that's what its there for.  It's an important stage of the season and we are all looking to get some games under our belts and then build on the momentum we have in training and in games.  It's something I'm looking forward to as is everyone.  Seven weeks is a long time away from football.  When the season ends, it's nice to look forward to the rest, but after a week, you're sat at home scratching your head!"
