Visitors Macclesfield Town didn't read the script when they travelled down to Dean Court for Jimmy Quinn's first home game in charge.
Quinn made several changes to the team that played Notts County as Lee Bradbury moved to attack while on loan Portsmouth defender Joel Ward took up the right back spot.
But it was Macclesfield who took a surprise early lead after just two minutes as Gareth Edwards scored his first league goal of the season. The Cherries had much of the play in the first half but were unable to find the equalising goal. On Forty five minutes Macclesfield goal scorer, Edwards was sent off for violent conduct giving the Cherries an added advantage going into half time.
The Cherries continuously threaten the Macclesfield goal; Captain Darren Anderton was influential in the midfield as he dictated play throughout the game, releasing Scott Wagstaff early in the second half, Wagstaff sharply crossed into the box and the ball was met by the arriving Lee Bradbury, his header was turned over the bar.
Minutes later the Cherries failed to capitalise on another opportunity as Town 'keeper Jon Brain picked up a back pass from a defender, but Brett Pitman's lay off couldn't find Anderton and Macclesfield were able to clear. The introduction of Jeff Goulding gave Bournemouth a new dimension in attack as he got the end of several pin point crosses from Anderton which forced smart saves from the Macclesfield goalkeeper.
The Cherries still looked confident of scoring the valuable equaliser and Danny Hollands went close as he fired a left footed volley just wide. Two minutes from time clever work from sub Josh McQuiod and Jeff Goulding allowed Anderton to fire a low shot which was smartly turned around the post by 'keeper Brain, leaving the Cherries out of time it find an equaliser.
Bournemouth next travel to Bradford City in League Two.
