Vokes Makes History - Sam sets Cherries scoring record
Cherries striker Sam Vokes re-wrote the history books on Saturday by becoming the youngest Bournemouth player to net ten league goals in a season.
His first half brace against Hartlepool United meant he completed the feat aged 18 years and 132 days. The previous record was set by Kevin Reeves. He netted his tenth league goal of the 75/76 season aged 18 years and 144 days on March 13th 1976.
The only other Cherries player to have managed the feat as a teenager was Howard Goddard, co-incidentally in the same season as Reeves. His tenth league goal of the season was registered on December 20th 1975 aged 18 years and 224 days.
West Ham striker Jermain Defoe reached double figures in the League for the first time while on loan at the Cherries. His goal on January 1st 2001 came at 18 years and 86 days and it only took him eight games from start to finish! Vokes took an impressive seventeen.
Vokes has also been named in the official League One team of the week for his contribution to the weekend win over Hartlepool United.
