Youth team central defender Jordan Rose denied a certain goal in the fifth minute with a determined block on the edge of the six yard box.
On seven minutes Cherries took the lead. Jo Tessem took advantage of the space given to him on the right side of the penalty area. His cross to the far post was headed goalwards by Pitman and it found the net off the post and keeper's fist.
Less than sixty seconds later Ryan Pryce made a superb double save to keep Cherries lead intact. On the quarter hour mark Tessem and Pitman combined well again to win a corner that Partington fired wide from as Cheltenham cleared.
Ryan Pryce was given a lucky escape on twenty-one minutes. Sam Foley raced clear of the defensive line and chipped the ball over the onrushing keeper. Pryce stuck out an arm to stop the ball looping over him and was only given a yellow card by the referee. Cheltenham's free kick then smashed into the Cherries wall.
Danny Hollands doubled Cherries advantage in the twenty-ninth minute with a moment of brilliance. Assisted by Hutchings he saw the keeper off his line and with one touch despatched a sublime lob to the far side of goal.
Three minutes later on thirty-two McQuoid made it 3-0. He ran from deep unchallenged and fired a low shot into the corner past Brown. The visitors responded with a corner from Ledgister headed at goal by Foley and tipped over by Pryce.
On the stroke of half time Brett Pitman showed his defensive qualities. Townsend rose highest from a Cheltenham corner and although his header beat Pryce, Pitman acrobatically cleared off the line.
The move spurred a counter attack from which McQuoid ran clear and shot through Brown's legs to make it four nil at the break.
Cherries started the second half in search of more goals and a great through ball from McQuoid sent Partington down the right flank. His cross was met by Brett Pitman whose overhead kick cleared the bar.
Pryce clawed Ashley Vincent's low shot round the near post in Cheltenham's first second half attack. But on the hour mark the visitors did pull a goal back.
Craig Reid took advantage of a communication error at the back to stab a shot against the post. Damian Spencer was quickest to the rebound as he smashed in the loose ball.
With twenty minutes remaining Brett Pitman nearly scored a second. He beat the offside trap and raced onto a through ball before angling a shot onto the far post.
Joe Partington missed a golden opportunity four minutes later when the impressive Josh McQuoid made space down the right and flighted an inviting delivery across the box six yards from goal.
Cheltenham pulled a second goal back ten minutes before the end. Damian Spencer raced onto a ball over the top and converted past Pryce.
Final Score: AFC Bournemouth 4-2 Cheltenham Town
