Vokes On Standby - Striker could join up with squad for Orient

Welsh Under 21 striker Sam Vokes could link up with the Cherries squad in time for Saturday's trip to Leyton Orient. Vokes is involved with the Wales Under 21 side this week. With Brett Pitman doubtful for Saturday Cherries are left with the prospect of no professional strikers on the bench.

Wales take on France on Friday evening in Grenoble in a UEFA qualifier and return to the country the following morning. Cherries Manager Kevin Bond says he will be exploring the option of having Vokes involved at Orient depending on how one or two factors pan out.

Bond said, "It's something we'll definitely be looking at. We'll have to see what extent he's involved in the Welsh game. He gets back Saturday morning.

"There's a possibility we could get him over to Brisbane Road to be involved in some way shape or form. But we'll have a look at Brett's fitness and decide what we need to do."

Vokes came on as a substitute against Port Vale last week and was unlucky not to have won Cherries a late penalty (pictured). Speaking about the incident before joining up with his country Vokes said, "The defender was all over me when I went up for a header and I thought it should have been a penalty.

"He pulled me back and it looked blatant, but it ended up being one of those days. We have to take games to the opposition more, especially at home.

"We had a couple of good chances and we have to take them in games like that and get the results we need. It was frustrating for everyone as I felt decisions didn't go our way. Some days you get them, some days you don't and today was one of those when you don't get them."
