Bournemouth's unbeaten away run has come to an end after a one goal defeat against a spirited Chesterfield side.

An uneventful first half produced no real chances of note but the second period was much livelier with Fogden down one end and Lester down the other creating chances. However the winning moment arrived ten minutes into the second half when loanee Liam Ridehalgh smashed a shot into the top corner. Bournemouth kept pushing but it just wasn't to be their night.

Lee Bradbury made two changes to the side which defeated Tranmere last week, one enforced and one out of choice. Harry Arter missed out after picking up a dead leg last weekend whilst Michael Symes was sacrificed as Bradders reverted to 4-5-1. Shaun MacDonald and Steven Gregory came into the midfield.

The first chance arrived on seven minutes after a scrappy opening to the match. The ball fell to Shaun MacDonald on the edge of the box but his first time effort was screwed wide of the post.

In a half of very few chances, Stephen Purches had two efforts in the space of a couple of minutes but neither came near to troubling Lee. The first came after good build-up with Thomas nodding the ball back for Purches but his overhead kick was off target, as was his shot from twenty yards which dribbled wide.

Defender Josh Thompson, who scored for the Spireites last week, got on the end of a Liam Ridehalgh free kick as the half drew to a close but couldn't test Darryl Flahavan.

There was a scare three minutes before the break after a slip from Stephane Zubar. This allowed Chesterfield in and Jack Lester tried his luck from the edge of the area and Flahavan saved with his legs.

It didn't take long for things to liven up in the second period though, as Pugh crossed for Fogden who headed wide just twenty seconds after the restart.

However the Spireites came even closer to breaking the deadlock on 51 minutes after another error from Zubar. Jack Lester profited again and fired a low left footed shot towards goal but Flahavan made a fine stop to preserve the clean sheet.

That clean sheet wasn't preserved for long however as Liam Ridehalgh netted his first professional league goal. The winger, on loan from Huddersfield, collected possession after the ball bobbled off a couple of players and powerfully struck the ball left footed and his shot flew into the net.

There were some shouts from the Cherries fans when Steve Cook headed towards goal but only found the side netting, not the back of the net. Bournemouth certainly looked brighter in the second period with Marc Pugh looking to chip Tommy Lee but the ball landed on the roof of the net.

Lee Bradbury decided a change of formation was needed and introduced Michael Symes on 64 minutes in place of Stephen Purches, switching to a 4-4-2.

Further chances were created by Bournemouth as they sought to maintain their unbeaten away league run but Neal Trotman was in the way on numerous occasions blocking good efforts from Pugh and Thomas as the visitors began to crank up the pressure.

With quarter of an hour to go, Steve Fletcher was introduced replacing Shaun MacDonald and making the return to the club where he became a Spireites fans' favourite during his spell with the Derbyshire club four years ago. However he couldn't repeat the heroics of the last time Bournemouth were on the road in the 2-2 draw at Walsall as the away record drifted away.

The Cherries earned a corner with three minutes remaining and the ball was aimed towards Fletcher. It fell to Symes on the volley but his effort was blocked and the danger was cleared as time was beginning to run out rapidly for Bradbury's men.

Three minutes were added on but Bournemouth couldn't create another opportunity and Chesterfield held on to complete the league double over the Cherries and end their away run.
