Andrew Lloyd Williams reports from Dean Court
Cherries had the first chance of the game when a Feeney long throw was flicked on by Bradbury and Igoe shot over his head, missing the target with his back to goal. Cummings and Bartley did well to cut out through balls directed for Lee Hughes. Sammy Igoe had Kasper Schmeichel worried when the young keeper could only push away his low drive from distance. County were prevented from building any moves when they had the ball as red shirts charged the ball down- Cummings and Connell both won possession this way.
In central defence, Pearce and Garry both stepped out to cut out through balls to great effect in the first half hour. When Cummings was beaten in the air by Hughes, Thomas came out to narrow down the angle well and the former West Brom striker blazed over. The Bournemouth squad's versatility shone through before half time when Jason Pearce was forced off to recieve treatment for a facial injury and Marvin Bartley stepped in at centre back.
BRETT PITMAN put the Cherries 1-0 up when strike partner Alan Connell played him through. The pass beat the offside trap and with the County defence trying to step up, Pitman ran through on his own and slotted past Schmeichel from the left hand side of the area. Straight from the kick off, Thomas had to be sharp as he defended several corners before Davies shot over. Connell dropped back to help beef up the midfield as Bournemouth shut up shop to go into the break with a one goal lead.
As the heavens opened, County equalised straight after half time when LEE HUGHES was first to a cross and slid it along the floor into the net. Bournemouth heads didn't drop and Pitman forced a good save from Schmeichel who had to push away a free kick down to his left. Twelve minutes later County took the lead as WESTCARR raced through and his shot was too powerful for Dan Thomas who got a hand to the shot but couldn't prevent it from crossing the line. Davies should have made it 3-1 when the ball fell for him in the area but he was pressured into stabbing a shot wide as Thomas and Pearce closed him down.

Cherries had the ball in the net but celebrations after Connell's effort were cut short as it was ruled out for a hand ball. The pitch became saturated when heavy rain stiopped the ball flowing properly and the pitch began to cut up. It became impossible to string a couple of passes together in the last quarter of an hour as puddles appeared on the pitch. Cummings made the most of these conditions when he wrong-footed Westcarr and crossed for Pearce, whose left footed poke flashed past the post.

Danny Hollands executed a perfect sliding tackle but he was halted by the pitch as the ball was held up in water. McQuoid came on and played well down the right hand side, several times beating his man to reach the byline. Lee Bradbury moved to attack as the game drew to a close and was unfortunate to see his low drive held by Schmeichel. Pressure at the end of the game was not enough to level the game and they were knocked out of the cup.
