Eddie Howe made a number of changes for tonight's game, resting a number of players who have been playing with slight knocks. 18 year old keeper Dan Thomas was given his debut as was Danny Ings and Jayden Stockley. It proved to be a highly disappointing night though as a late penalty miss by Lee Bradbury, was followed by a winning penalty for the home side deep in to injury time.
The Cherries started brightly and dominated the early stages. Alan Connell came close early on when he intercepted a back pass, but could not net from a tight angle. Bournemouth took a richly deserved lead on 33 minutes when Danny Hollands pounced in the area to stab the ball home much to the delight of the 204 Cherries supporters who made the trip.
Thomas was called in to action the second half and he stood up well to the pressure. On 66 minutes though, he could do nothing when Steve Guinan guided a header home to put the hosts level.
The two youngsters were then introduced to the fray as Bournemouth searched for a late winner. On 86 minutes, it looked as if the Cherries would go through as they were awarded a penalty for a handball. The Cobblers complained long and hard and Lee Bradbury waited patiently to take the spot kick, and after an age, he finally got to take the kick, which was well saved.
In the very final minute, at the other end of pitch, Bradbury was adjudged to have fouled Courtney Herbert and Ryan Gilligan scored from the spot to break Cherries hearts just before the game was to go to spot kicks. This was a good performance that deserved so much more as the dream of Wembley is over.
