Despite a terrific performance, the Cherries were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline. The side created numerous chances throughout, but were caught on the counter twice by Lincoln. Sammy Igoe came in to midfield with Marvin Bartley going back to the centre of defence after Ryan Garry pulled up in training on the Friday.
Lincoln tried to press early on, but it was Bournemouth who looked more composed and inventive. Brett Pitman was close with a quick piece of thinking from a free kick and then Alan Connell looked certain to score, but his shot went inches wide. It was the Cherries playing all the football, but Lincoln managed to take an undeserved lead on 23 minutes. A player came from an offside position to win a header and Davide Somma ran through on goal with the Cherries awaiting an offside flag that never came. The protests were long and hard with Shwan Jalal booked for saying too much.
Despite the set back, Bournemouth ere soon back on top and Pitman was denied b y a fine save. Connell was then denied by a fine block and before the break, Liam Feeney came so close with a curling shot, but somehow the side went in to the half time break a goal down.
The second half saw the Cherries even more dominant with Burch saving from Pitman and soon after, Pitman heading narrowly wide. Bournemouth refused to be frustrated and finally got a richly deserved equaliser when Rhoys Wiggins whipped in a free kick which was diverted in to the net by Pitman for his 21st league goal of the campaign.
Roared on by a large travelling support, the Cherries now looked the only winners and Pitman twice came close. There was a real shock though as from a long punted clearance late on, Somma sent in a delightful chip to give Lincoln a surprise lead. Despite heavy pressure, they managed to hang on and leave Bournemouth shaking their heads as to how they came away with nothing.
Although the game was lost, the Cherries actually finished the game in a stronger league position than before as they kept their six point gap with one game less to play and now the two home matches take on huge significance.
