It was an incident packed afternoon at Blundell Park, where the Mariners broke the Cherries hearts with a last minute winner. Lee Bradbury scored his first goal of the season, Liam Feeney was on the scoresheet with a goal that was down to a mistake by former Cherries keeper Nick Colgan and Jeff Goulding was sent off seconds after coming on as a substitute. There was also controversy as Grimsby's second goal was a clear handball, confirmed by their striker Lee Peacock after the game.
In wet conditions, it was a lively start from the home side without causing too many problems in the Cherries defence. They did though take the lead on 27 minutes. Marvin Bartley was caught out by Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro and although Shwan Jalal parried his effort, Jamie Devitt was on hand to poke the ball home. This heralded the start of the best period of the game for Bournemouth as the side forced a number of corners. The pressure finally paid off when Bradbury headed home Brett Pitmans corner right in front of the 149 travelling supporters.
Both sides had chances at the start of the second half before Grimsby retook the lead in controversial circumstances. Sweeney sent of a corner that came off Ryan Garry and just as Jalal was about to gather the ball, Michael Coulson stuck out an arm, and much to the anger of the Cherries players, the goal was given.
The side went up the other end and Liam Feeney sent in a tame effort on target that Colgan somehow managed to to allow to squirm past him and in to the net.
Goulding then came of for Pitman and within a minute, got in to a chase with Jude Stirling and appeared to lash out and was shown a straight red card. The ten men looked to have done enough to earn a point under mounting Grimsby pressure, but in the 91st minute, the hosts grabbed what could be a season defining three points. After a scramble, Ashley Chambers netted to make it a very long journey home.
