Cherries were granted a shooting chance after just one minute. Richard Shaw felled Bartley and Cooper's free kick flashed past the post.
The referee had to deal with a few sliding challenges in the greasy conditions although kept a lid on affairs in the opening exchanges.
Neil Harris nearly broke the deadlock for the visitors on fourteen minutes. His overhead kick from ten yards out was excellently tipped over the bar by Cherries keeper David Forde.
Forde has to punch away two further high balls into the Cherries box before landing awkwardly when clearing a cross from the right hand side.
The keeper was fine to continue and on twenty-eight minutes made a good save down to his left to deny David Martin as Millwall began to gain control.
Cherries were struggling to create chances and the next effort of any note was Lee Bradbury's curling shot wide of the far post on thirty-three minutes.
Maxi Gradel showed he wasn't afraid to have a pop at goal with two quick attempts from the edge of the area.
McQuoid and Gradel switched flanks for the closing minutes of an uneventful first half. The youth team player swung a cross for the Leicester loanee, but Gradel misjudged the bounced and the ball landed safely behind.
Half time: AFC Bournemouth 0-0 Millwall
The second half was slow to take shape with both sides continuing to frustrate each other in the middle of the park. Half time sub Brett Pitman had the ball in the net with a well angled drive, but it was ruledd offside from Voksey's ball.
A loose ball in the middle of the park gave Jay Simpson a run on goal after fifty-five minutes, but Josh Gowling blocked well to concede a corner. From the flag kick Bas Savage had a chance at goal that beat Forde and was headed away from the line by Shaun Cooper.
A deep free kick from Danny Hollands just shy of the hour mark caught out former Cherries trialist Rhys Evans. The Welsh keeper back pedalled and clawed the ball away from goal.
A harshly awarded penalty gave Millwall a glorious chance to take the lead on sixty-three minutes. Shaun Cooper was adjudged to have felled Jem Karacan in the box. In fairness to the former Cherries midfielder, Karacan didn't appeal.
Neil Harris stepped up and struck his penalty at a nice height for David Forde to save down to his right. Armet Brkovic acted quickest and was first to the rebound, but he missed the target with the goal gaping.
His next attempt at goal three minutes later was a much better one. A centrally struck free kick from twenty-five yards was tipped away from the top corner by the ever more impressive Forde.
After Cherries had weathered the Millwall storm Brett Pitman hit the post with a rasping effort. Maxi Gradel ran onto a hopeful forward ball and as Richard Shaw failed to clear effectively Pitman lashed in a shot that clipped the outside of the far post.
Wth fifteen minutes remaining it was Bournemouth's turn to be awarded a spot kick. Sam Vokes took a knock to the face in challenging a high ball. Despite missing a penalty last week at Gillingham Max Gradel was adamant in taking this one. Brett Pitman reluctantly left him to it and Gradel smashed the ball in the bottom left corner.
If there was any doubt over who should have taken the penalty there was no doubting the sheer quality of the second. Maxi Gradel took the ball from the left touch line, rounded three players and shot a powerful effort into the far corner. Usually restrained, Kevin Bond punched the air in delight as the three points were secured.
Final Score: AFC Bournemouth 2-0 Millwall
