Max Alain Gradel was playing his first match back from compassionate leave and he was immediately in the action. He overlapped Aranalde to pick up a delightful chip from Cooper and won a corner with his cross that keeper Westwood fumbled before clutching at the second attempt.

Carlisle createda chance on nine minutes when Gowling's diving clearance fell the way of Hackney. As Cherries failed to clear the balll it fell to Hackney again whose shot was kept out by a point blank save from the legs of Begovic.

Hackney was on the end of another chance two minutes later, but his attempt across goal wasn't struck with any accuracy. In the fourteenth minute Darren Anderton stole the ball in midfield and made a twenty yard run before curling just wide on his weaker foot.

Following a weak effort by Bradbury Chris Lumsden had an air shot following more good work by Hackney. Gradel then had two efforts in quick succession, one blocked the other saved.

On wtenty-five minutes Joe Anyinsah created the games best chance to date. His shot across goal looked to be nestling into the bottom corner before the outstretched hand of Begovic clawed the ball around the post.

Gradel, Hollands and Anderton all had cracks at goal as Cherries upped the tempo in search of an equaliser before half time.

Begovic was having a great game, but couldn't stop the opening goal from Garner a minute later. He shot on the turn from sixteen yards and buried the ball into Begovic's bottom right hand corner.

Carlisle doubled their lead five minutes before the break and Asmir Begovic undid all his good work with an error for the goal. He mis-judged  Zigor Aranalde's flighted free kick allowing Joe Garner the simplest of finishes for his second of the game.

Half time: AFC Bournemouth 0-2 Carlisle United

Jo Kuffour nearly scored his first home goal for the Cherries eight minutes into the second half. He read a cross from Gradel and looped a header just over the bar.

A minute later he did get that goal. Again Gradel was involved and as his shot was saved by Westwood Kuffour was first to the rebound and he squeezed the ball into the bottom corner.

Lee Bradbury curled in a half volley from the edge of the area that had Westwood desperately looking across his goal before it fell beyond the far post.

On sixty-three minutes Bradders then had a drive from twenty-five yards tipped over by the goalkeeper, who then caught splendidly from the corner.

Despite having the lions share of the second half Carlisle restored their two goal lead in the sixty-sixth minute. Paul Telfer got in the way of a clearance and Anyinsah made the Cherries defence pay with a powerful finish.

Lee Bradbury's quest for a first league goal then continued with a header that Westwood somehow not only got a touch to but then deflected onto post then bar.

Danny Hollands was next to test Westwood with a rising effort. Sam Vokes then had a downward header saved from Anderton's free kick. Yet another Cherries chance saw Westwood tip a Sam Vokes shot onto the bar and behind.
