Kevin Bond makes one change from Saturday's win against Bristol Rovers. New loan signing Scott Golbourne comes straight into the starting XI to replace Jason Pearce.
The performance was much improved and very encouraging for Kevin Bond's Bournemouth. The Lee Bradbury sending off made things terribly difficult for the Cherries and Leeds scored a third as Cherries went pushing for a second equaliser.
Cherries: Moss, Telfer, A Pearce, Golbourne, Gowling, Hollands, Anderton (Vokes 68), Karacan, Henry, Kuffour, Bradbury.
Subs: Stewart, Pearce, Lallana, Pitman.
Leeds: Ankergren, Richardson, Douglas, Marques, Heath, Prutton, Beckford, Carole (Weston 85), Kandol, Hughes (Da Costa 89), Clapham.
Subs: Huntington, Constantine, Lucas.
Leeds United took the lead in the fourth minute. Former Cherry Tresor Kandol was released through on goal and his initial shot was poor. Neil Moss spilled the effort however and Kandol was able to tap in the rebound.
In a scrappy opening the next chance also fell the way of the visiting side. Kandol rose for a right wing cross and headed over the bar. Cherries were working hard in midfield, but the ball wasn't breaking for them in the final third.
Cherries first clear cut chance was carved on nineteen minutes. Darren Anderton held the ball up well and played the ball across to Kuffour whose deft chip landed just the wrong side of the far post.
On twenty-six minutes Jermain Beckford wriggled himself a chance in the Cherries area. He flicked the ball over loanee Alex Pearce, but Pearce did enough to see the final shot put high into the North Stand.
Jo Kuffour's pace won Cherries a free kick on thirty-two minutes, but Anderton's effort from the left hand side went straight into the arms of Leeds keeper Ankergren.
Kuffour was then so close to scoring himself two minutes later. His powerful effort from the edge of the area was clawed behind by Ankergren. The diminutive winger then raced beyond the keeper from a forward ball, but was drawn wide.
The equaliser was certainly coming from the Cherries and Jem Karacan finished off the move with a blistering twenty yard strike. As space opened up for him Karacan let fly first time with a stunning unstoppable effort into the top corner.
On Leeds next attack David Prutton was booked for his second nasty challenge of the game, a challenge of which Cherries fans may suggest was characteristic of the former Southampton midfielder.
Cherries were lifted by the equaliser and a corner won by James Henry was headed goalward by Josh Gowling. Only a well placed Rui Marques blocking the shot off the line denied Cherries a lead.
Half time: AFC Bournemouth 1-1 Leeds United
Both sides had early second half corners to mark their presence after the interval and it was Cherries who came closest to scoring. A ball that flashed across the face of goal just needed a touch and Alex Pearce arrived a moment too late.
Six minutes into the half David Prutton touched on a bouncing ball with his head and Neil Moss needed to take a step back and ensure he made a good safe catch.
Leeds regained the lead minutes later with Sebastien Carole on the end of a well worked move. A couple of one touch passes created a move and a curling effort into the far top corner gave Neil Moss no chance.
Sixty-two minutes into the game it suddenly became an uphill task for Bournemouth. In challenging fora high ball Lee Bradbury won Cherries a free kick although was suddenly shown a red card by referee Steve Bennett.
Confirmation of the reasons behind his sending off will follow and from the Bournemouth free kick James Henry curled an effort inches over the bar.
Despite being a man down and also losing Darren Anderton to a knock, Cherries matched their Yorkshire rivals and kept pressing the Leeds United penalty area. The home side were finding it more difficult to break through, but were making the Leeds defence work to hold onto their lead.
Leeds were always dangerous on the attack and despite sterling work at the back from Josh Gowling and Paul Telfer, the visitors took a two goal lead with five minutes remaining. Tresor Kandol registered his second of the match with a downward header that deceived Neil Moss and crossed the line via the woodwork.
