Cherries started brightly and forced an early corner through a Cheltenham error. Gradel's delivery was met by Bradbury and his shot on the turn was blocked.
On seven minutes Vokes and Gradel combined well down the right. Neil Young supported from right back to get a cross into the box and Gradel's shot deflected wide. From the corner Jason Pearce won the header and came close to his second goal in as many games.
Kuffour then got into the action with a quick shot from the apex of the box also deflected for a corner. As Cheltenham failed to clear Bradbury's volley fizzed just over the top.
Cherries were awardeda penalty on fifteen minutes. Marvin Bartley's persistence on the left paid dividends and he was felled by Cheltenham captain Jerry Gill. Max Gradel stepped up confidentally and hammered a low drive into the back of the net.
A brave block from Neil Young on his 500th career game for the club gave the visitors a corner and Stewart saved well from Brooker after an initial clearance was pumped back into the danger area.
Cheltenham had a spell of pressure after the mid-way point in the first half, but were lacking in ideas to unlock the Cherries defence. Top scorer Gillespie was being kept out the game by a firm rearguard and he offered little in the first half hour.
On a Cherries counter attack thirty-eight minutes in Lee Bradbury was unlucky not to double the scores. Max Gradel was released down the right and his powerful cross was struck against the upright from Bradbury's fierce shot.
Just as Cheltenham thought they'd cleared the danger a quick throw was sent to the edge of the box and Marvin Bartley netted his first ever professional goal. He met the ball on the half volley and connected with a beautiful lob to send the ball over Shane Higgs.
The visitors pulled a goal back at half time through David Bird. He took advantage of a mix up in the penalty area to lash the ball across goal beyond Stewart into the far side.
Half time: AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Cheltenham Town
The visitors made a double substitution at half time and top scorer Gillespie was quickly into the action after a quiet first half. His header from Brooker's left wing cross fell wide of the far post.
Lee Bradbury was having an impressive game and his through ball sent Jo Kuffour away on forty-nine minutes. Cooper picked up the play and his goalbound chip was held by Higgs.
Marvin Bartley has been showing his ability to break from midfield in recent weeks and his forward running nearly earned a third goal for Bournemouth ten minutes into the half. Under pressure from Gillinagh he forged a shooting chance and blasted a shot across the side netting.
The Robins responded with a free kick a minute later from a dangerous area, but Jason Pearce made a solid block against a more potent Cheltenham than in the first half.
Cheltenham looked more like scoring in the second half and with Cherries defending a one goal lead there was no room for further mistakes. Steve Gillespie was far mor einvolved in the game and a run and shot on sixty-five minutes was easily gathered by Stewart.
Despite the danger signs Cherries were looking for a third to restore the two goal lead and a minute later Kuffour's powerful shot was tipped over the bar by Higgs.
Substitute Ashley Vincent's long range drive was palmed away by Stewart as the game began to open up. Neil Young was close to celebrating his 500th game in style with a rasping shot from distance that beat Higgs and flew agonisingly wide of the post.
On seventy-three minutes Sam Vokes brought the ball out of his own half and continued his run to the edge of the Cheltenham box. His drive at goal was beaten away by Higgs was Vincent's was by Stewart minutes earlier.
Vokesey then headed narrowly wide from Neil Young's cross before Brooker thundered a shot over Stewart's bar assisted by substitute Connor getting involved in the Cherries penalty area.
Pearce's foul on Brooker gave the visitors a free kick opportunity with three minutes on the clock. Max Gradel got an important nick on Gillespie's effort as the ball flew over the top. From Wright's corner however Brooker was first to the ball and for the third successive game against Cheltenham a late set piece proved pivotal.
On the stroke of ninety minutes Scott Brown was shown red for the visitors. He dived in for a challenge with Marvin Bartley and the referee didn't hesitate in carding the Cheltenham substitute.
Final Score: AFC Bournemouth 2-2 Cheltenham Town
