Cherries move up to 13th in the League One Table

In a half mainly dominated by Bournemouth, Oldham had the early chances and tested Gareth Stewart twice in the opening twelve minutes. Wellens' shot frm the edge of the area was helped over the bar by the Cherries keeper and then Chris Taylor saw his looping header follow the same fate.

Following the early scare Cherries dominated and created a host of chances. Foley cracked in an effort from Fletcher's flick and Hayter showed a glimpse of what was to come from Cooper's free-kick.

At the other end Stewart's early handling was impressive in the wet conditions, but it was the Cherries making all the headway. Cooper and Hayter combined again with the top scorer heading narrowly over. He was getting closer.

The goal was certainly coming  and Hayter was in no mood to let his impressive first half display go without a goal. On twenty-eight minutes Hayter played a one-two with Cooke and wasted no time in picking out the top corner to register his third of the season.

Four minutes later Leon Best had the ball in the net after Howe sent a header into the danger area, but the linesman ruled a foul had taken place before the ball crossed the line.

Shaun Cooper then came agonisingly close to scoring his first for the club. The ball just wouldn't bounce for him in the area despite having plenty of space and when he did get a shot away it was blocked for a corner.

Best was denied again four minutes from the break when Cummings released him into the area. Knight was quick off his line to make the block, but he couldn't do anything about Hayter's second goal two minutes before the break.

Shaun Cooper played a pin-point cross so good that Hayter merely ahd to direct his header back across goal, wrong-footing the Oldham stopper.

The half time whistle came at the wrong time for a dominating Cherries side and after a double substitution, Oldham won a penalty in the forty-seventh minute. Howe handled trying to clear his lines and Andy Liddell paused on his run-up before placing a shot to Stewart's right.

Five minutes later Oldham could have equalised when a mix-up between Cummings and Stewart almost let in an Oldham striker. Stewart recovered to make a save on the edge of his box and Cummings cleared the danger.

Whether it was the early goal, Oldham's change of shape or a mixture of both, Cherries failed to get going in the second half and the best they could muster at the other end including a couple of half chances for Cummings and Best.

Oldham were looking the more likely to score and should have done eighteen minutes from time. Marcus Browning's poor backpass let in Chris Porter and with Stewart stranded way of fhis line, Porter's job of lobbing him was easier than his attempt made it look.

Eddie Howe then made a diving block on the goal-line before Oldham did get that second goal the Latics were threatening. Andy Liddell scored his second of the game with a sweet strike across the ball to send it beyond Stewart's dive and in off the foot of the post.

Despite being on the back foot Cherries manager Sean O'Driscoll made a positive change in bringing on Brett Pitman following the earlier enforced sub of Leon Best with the Southampton striker complaining of a migraine and lack of vision.

Deep into stoppage time Purches' persistance won Cherries a corner and Foley's delivery wasn't handled by Knight and as he dropped the ball it hit a defender and fell the way of Marcus Browning. Browning chose the best of moments to dispatch only his second league goal for the club and first in 45 months with a left footed drilled effort that rose into the roof of the net.

Substitute Brett Pitman played his part in showing some mature touches in keeping the ball to ensure the most slender of victories.

Final Score: AFC Bournemouth 3-2 Oldham Athletic
