Orient started in a confident vain having beaten London rivals Millwall on Tuesday night and forced an early corner that Cherries had to on full alert to clear. Howe, Broadhurst and Cooper at the back were given a strong early test, but doing well to keep the Orient attack at bay.

At the other end Leon Best was doing his all to create space in the opposing half from open play and Cherries were given a chance from a free-kick thirteen minutes in. Garner saved from Foley's effort on target, but the kick could have done with more direction and power.

Lee Steele then came agonisingly close to giving the home side an advantage. He reached a cross twelve yards from goal and sent a looping header over Gareth Stewart and onto the cross bar. Hayter was immediately at the other end with a shot at goal, but again Garner gathered without too much difficulty.

Gareth Stewart was called into action midway through the half. Gary Alexander drilled low and Stewart clawed the ball behind for yet another home corner that Cherries thankfully dealt with as the others in the opening quarter of the match.

Three minutes later however, Stewart was picking the ball out the back of his net. A move started in the Orient half resulted in a deep cross from which Alexander had an attempt at goal well saved by Stewart. There was nothing the Cherries stopper could do about the second though as Alexander netted with the rebound.

Cherries responded by upping the tempo, but Stewart was called into action again having to save from Tudor's header. Cooke and Best created a couple of half chances for Bournemouth, although the Cherries quelled Orient's control of the game. The visitors earned a late corner, but Howe's left footed effort was blocked and cleared by Orient.

Half time: Leyton Orient 1-0 AFC Bournemouth

A scare at the start of the second half for Cherries within a minute of the second half kicking off saw the ball deflected off Howe into the arms of the altert Gareth Stewart. The half time team talk seemed to be having an effect early on. Cherries were holding much more possession and asking more questions of the Orient defence.

The reward came eleven minutes into the second half. A ball was chipped into the danger area and nobody picked up the run of Hayter. Cherries top marksman opened his account for the season with a neat finish across goal.

Orient responded with an effort from Lee Steele, successfully blocked by Shaun Cooper to give Orient another corner defended well by Bournemouth. From the counter attack Steven Foley brought the ball forward and his cross back to Best was so close to giving Cherries the lead as Best's effort at full stretch rolled just past the post.

Four minutes later a second counter attack from an Orient corner reaped a second goal for Bournemouth. Again it was Steve Foley who drove the attack on and Stephen Cooke was well placed in space to fire Cherries into the lead.

The second half scoring wasn't over and Orient finally made one of their corners count for something. Cherries had been defending superbly from set pieces, but from this one Steele was on hand to nod in the fourth goal of the game.

Steele then had an easy chance to put Orient back into the lead. He was free inside the six yard box and couldn't convert the cross which just needed a touch moments before Sean O'Driscoll made a tactical change.

Cummings replaced Cooke and took up a left wingback position with Foley going central. Shaun Maher's height was added to the defence in place of Shaun Cooper. Ainsworth then replaced Fletcher for the closing ten minutes of the match.

The move didn't have the required effect when Lionel Ainsworth unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury when bringing the ball forward to the Orient penalty area. He was unable to continue and Cherries had to play the final seven minutes of the match with ten men.

Sean's team couldn't survive and Lee Steele broke through in stoppage time to claim the victory with his second of the game.
