Cherries announced the signing of Steven Foley on a two and a half year deal before the match this afternoon, but unfortunately the tricky winger lasted just eleven minutes. He was involved on an early flowing move that won Cherries a corner when his ankle was clipped by a back tracking Chesterfield player. From the corner Roche spilled his catch and Tindall nearly capitalised.
Stephen Purches had his best game of the season so far operating on the right wing and frequently provided ammunition for Hayter and Rodrigues to feed off. Both Purches and Cooper delivered from the right within the first minutes to trouble the Chesterfield defence.
On ten minutes however, Chesterfield came close to scoring with their first attack of the game. Hurst, who had wasted an earlier chance, found some space in the area and hit the underside of the bar. Allott then had a header saved by Stewart.
On sixteen minutes Bournemouth had the ball in the net. A deep cross from the left picked out Browning on the opposite side and his precise header was ruled out for offside.
The decision proved costly as Chesterfield took the lead. The ball broke kindly for the visitors on the right hand side and the cross found the ever reliable Wayne Allison in the penalty area and he needed no second invite to claim his chance.
Cherries replied with a Coutts volley saved by Roche from another Purches delivery and the right winger crossed again for Rodrigues minutes later. The striker drilled a left footed effort through a crowd of players and just beyond the post.
Dani was then given a golden chance when a quick throw to Browning linked Coutts into the action. A one touch pass found Rodrigues in space and he lifted the ball over the bar as well as the Chesterfield keeper.
Half time: AFC Bournemouth 0-1 Chesterfield
Cherries started the second half in a positive fashion and linked up well in midfield to get the ball forward to the two strikers. A flicked on Hayter from Hayter found Purches and Roche had to claim the cross to deny Rodrigues a scoring chance from within the six yard box.
Hart then delivered from the opposite side after a short corner and Hayter's headed effort was easily claimed by Roche, who was the busier of the two keepers.
At the other end Hurst tried another effort from distance and Stewart could only watch as the ball brushed past the bar inches away from goal.
The two Cherries strikers combined to good effect on sixty-five minutes and Hayter's movement proved too much for Gareth Davies, who fouled his man in the area and gave Cherries a way back into the game. Hayter stepped up and calm as you like, slotted the ball the opposite side of Roche's dive.
The lead lasted less than ten minutes. Chesterfield broke down the right and Hurst managed to beat the offside trap. On the goal line, he pulled the ball back to Jamie O'Hara, who registered his first goal for the club whilst on loan from Spurs with a sweet first time strike into the roof of the net.
Brett Pitman signed his first professional contract before the match and he was thrown on to add some movement and acted as a livewire up front, chasing everything down. He also had a couple of half chances at goal with an injury time goalbound thunderous volley blocked well by a Chesterfield defender with the North Stand already on their feet.
Final Score: AFC Bournemouth 1-2 Chesterfield
