The game started with chances from the off. Vieira with a chance at one end and Spicer at the other both over the top. On seven minutes Elliott's cross won a corner from from it Eddie Howe was unlucky to see his header go behind off a white shirt.
Vieira was proving Carlisle's most dangerous player and a run into the box saw Eddie back in defensive duty to put a block of his own in.
Cherries were desperately close to scoring on the quarter hour mark. Neil Young, filling in at left back, crossed who Connell who shot on the turn with his back to goal with only the foot of the post preventing the first goal of the of the game.
Elliott's cross then provided Holmes with a headed chance straight at Glennon as Bournemouth began to apply some heavy pressure. The inspirational Elliott then put in another cross that although was initially cleared was picked up by Spicer whose left footed effort was kept out by Glennon.
On twenty-five minutes nobody could take the ball from O'Connor as he jinked forward and fired a shot across the face of goal.
Bournemouth were looking superb on the right hand side and after a brief danger period from a Carlisle corner the ball was up the other end. Elliott unlocked the defence with a great ball for O'Connor and his deep cross was headed behind by a defender beyond the late run from Young.
Half time: AFC Bournemouth 0-0 Carlisle United
Within a minute of the second half kicking off Vieira was straight back into the action. Followed by Howe he darted forward and the final shot clipped Howe.
From the corner Bournemouth countered and a slick move involving Connell, O'Connor and Spicer saw the latter cross for Holmes. His first effort was blocked on the line but he was there for the rebound to net his second in as many matches.
Bournemouth then won a corner of their own and Eddie's glancing header fell just wide of the far post.
Derek's strike partner Alan Connell was played through by Elliott on fifty-seven, but the final shot was straight at Glennon.
Vieira was the only player providing an attacking force for Carlisle and his pace was only held up by a great challenge from Maher. He would have been clean through otherwise and as a result he had to rush the shot and missed the target.
His next break was halted by a Karl Broadhurst tackle and that set Elliott away again. He made ground and put in a deep cross for Holmes to play back across the six yard box for Connell to poach home and double Bournemouth's lead.
Neil Moss had a period of catching practice when Carlisle altered their attacking strategy upon the exit of Mango Vieira.
Karl Hawley tested Moss late on with a drive the Bournemouth keeper tipped wide and from the corner Carlisle headed over the top.
The visitors came forward most as the clock was running down and substitute Farrell beat the offside trap to set himself a one-on-one with Moss. The Bournemouth keeper was quick to rush out his area and make a sliding challenge Eddie Howe would be proud of.
The pressure led to a goal two minutes from time. Farrell again was on the end of it and the ball to the left hand side of the area was shot neatly across goal to make it 2-1.
Bournemouth ran down the clock with some possession play right at the end that led to an unsavoury incident that didn't blow over until after the final whistle. Lumsdon lunged in from behind on Spicer. Lumsdon escaped punishment and Grand was carded for a shove on Spicer after the incident. The referee didn't view anything in the aftermath worthy of further cautions.
Final Score: AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Carlisle United
